Shannon Stroud (Cavalier) was a highly-touted outside hitter from Amarillo, Texas, High School, helping lead the 1998 Lady Sandies to a 39-0 record and the Class 5A state championship, before coming to West Texas A&M in 1999.
As a freshman, she contributed to a Lady Buff team that went 36-2 and advanced to the Elite Eight semifinals at Battle Creek, Mich., where they lost in five games to Tampa. She was selected to the All-Elite Eight Tournament Team.
By the time she finished her four-year career in 2002, Stroud's teams won four consecutive Lone Star Conference championships, made the regional tournament each year, and three Elite Eights.
Her four-year Lady Buff record was an incredible 136-10. Stroud was an AVCA second-team all-American in 2000, Daktronics second-team and AVCA first-team all-American in 2001, and third-team AVCA all-American in 2002.
She is the third all-time WT career holder in kills (1,949) and digs (1,801) and ranks among the NCAA Division II career leaders in career digs.
Stroud graduated from WT in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.Â
