Hall of Champions
A native of Western Oklahoma, Nay Hale spent much of his early days living in Canyon. Coming to the West Texas State Normal campus in 1920, it didn't take him long to make his mark as he quickly became known for both his outstanding basketball shot, as well as his dribbling abilities.
A four-year letterwinner for the Buffaloes, Hale led WT to a 9-1 record in 1920-21, WT's first season in the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Over their next three seasons, Hale led the Buffs to records of 12-4, 12-4 and 13-3 for a four-year record of 46 wins and just 12 defeats.
And, in an era when 30 points would be the winning total, Hale averaged over 15 points per contest. Against North Texas State in 1923, Hale scored 15 of WT's 24 points in the Buffs 24-22 win.
In addition to basketball, Hale also played baseball as well as clarinet in the WT band. Following graduation, he worked in both the Stockyard as well as Construction industries.
