Hall of Champions
Joe Ray Halsey, the true definition of a Buffalo for life, takes his spot in the WT Hall of Champions. He served as an assistant for the Buffalo Baseball program from 1967-71 under legendary head coach Bob Sloan before embarking on a historic high school coaching career that spanned 34 years in Perryton, Andrews and Dallas Jesuit.

The Perryton native accumulated 586 career coaching victories, winning 14 District Championships as he made nine trips to the Regional Finals with three Regional Titles. His 1999 squad at Andrews High School claimed the Class 4A State Championship as Halsey was named the Class 4A Coach of the Year. He served as the Director of the Texas High School Coaches Association, being elected to the THSBCA Hall of Fame in 2007. Halsey also served as a professional scout for the Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres and Kansas City Royals.

Halsey returned to Canyon in 2007 as he was named the Executive Director of the WT Buffalo Club, during that time he also served as a volunteer assistant on the WT Baseball staff under Matt Vanderburg building the foundation for the continued success of the program today. Halsey is still a devoted member of BuffNation that attends games often. Joe Ray and his wife Vicky are the proud parents of a daughter, Casey and they have two grandchildren, Kaylee and Brady.
