James finished his two-year career on the diamond as one of the most influential players in program history. He still holds the program record for lowest ERA (2.10) while ranking in the Top 10 in strikeouts and innings pitched.Â

The Las Cruces, N.M. native led the Buffs to their first NCAA postseason appearance in 2014 where he was named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Year. He also earned First Team NCBWA and Daktronics All-Region and Third Team ABCA All-American honors after going 9-3 on the mound with an ERA of 2.30 with 126 strikeouts in 98 innings pitched.Â

He signed with the Houston Astros as a free agent in 2014 where he spent two seasons in the minor leagues.Â
