#2 Lady Buffs Host Lubbock Christian in a Non-Conference Showdown at Schaeffer Park

CANYON, Texas –
The newly crowned Lone Star Conference Champion Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M will step out of league play on Wednesday night as they host the Lady Chaps of Lubbock Christian in a big South Central Regional matchup at Schaeffer Park with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
 
LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN
The Lady Chaps enter the weekend with an overall record of 36-10 with a 13-5 mark in Heartland Conference play following a series win over Oklahoma Panhandle State this past weekend in Goodwell.
 
Lubbock Christian is led by fifth year head coach Daren Hays who has compiled an overall record of 214-40 during his time in Lubbock.
 
The Lady Chaps are led offensively by Morgan Colburn who is hitting .400 this season with 13 doubles and a Nation's best 20 homeruns to drive in 56 RBI. In the circle, LCU is led by Katlyn Holmes who is 16-4 on the season with a 2.43 ERA with 11 complete games and four shutouts to go along with 50 strikeouts in her 115.1 innings of work so far this season.
 
LCU is hitting .337 as a team to go along with 77 doubles, eight triples, 65 homeruns and 334 RBI for a team slugging percentage of .564 with 61 combined errors for a fielding clip of .954. In the circle, LCU has a 2.65 combined ERA with 31 complete games and 199 strikeouts in 299.0 innings with an opposing batting average of .248.
 
NFCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (APR. 6)
The West Texas A&M Lady Buffs remained the number two team in the nation announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) in their weekly Division II Top-25 Poll released on Wednesday morning by the association's offices in Louisville, Kentucky.
 
The Indianapolis Greyhounds (34-1) picked up 12 of the possible 16 first place votes for a total of 396 points followed by the Lady Buffs (4 first place, 388 points), Humboldt State (361), Saint Leo, (345), Arkansas Tech (343), North Alabama (311), North Georgia (304), Missouri-St. Louis (298), Cal Baptist (265) and St. Mary's (257) to round out the top ten. The South Central Region was represented by WT, St. Mary's (10th), Cameron (22nd), and Texas Woman's (RV).
 
3-PEAT
The #2 Lady Buffs claimed their third straight Lone Star Conference title this past weekend as they outscored the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico, 40-8 in a Senior Weekend series sweep at Schaeffer Park to move WT to 44-2 (26-2 LSC). The Lady Buffs became the third team in LSC history to win three straight titles along with Southeastern Oklahoma (1999-01) and Angelo State (2008-10).
 
WT has earned the right to host the Lone Star Conference Championship on April 29-30, they will be the top seed in the event and receive a bye in the quarterfinal round and play the winner of the 4/5 seed game in the semifinals on Friday night at a time to be determined.
 
NATIONALLY SPEAKING (APR. 7)
The Lady Buffs have the nation's second best offense with a .373 team batting average while leading the nation with 2.40 doubles per game, a .474 on base percentage while scoring 8.74 runs per contest.
 
– WT ranks first in slugging percentage (.619) while coming in sixth with 1.21 homeruns per game and ranking fourth in win/loss percentage at .952.
 
– Senior Stacey Ramirez ranks 41st in the country in batting average (.442) and ninth in runs per game (1.19). Fellow senior Tori Bayer is second in the nation in saves this season with seven while Lacey Taylor ranks ninth in on-base percentage (.561) and 15th in walks per game (0.76).
 
– Sophomore outfielder Ashley Hardin leads the Lady Buffs with 12 home runs which ranks 12th in the nation. WT has four players in the Top-50 in RBI this season with Hardin (7th, 48), Taylor (19th, 43), Shea Ibrahim (31st, 39) and Brittany Cruz (31st, 39).
 
A LOOK BACK (ENMU SERIES)
WT hit .386 as a team in the four games with nine doubles, two triples and 10 homeruns to drive in 39 RBI for a team slugging percentage of .875 while walking 22 times for an on-base clip of .509. The Lady Buffs were perfect on defense this past weekend with 66 putouts and 27 assists with no errors for a fielding clip of 1.000. Freshman outfielder Brittany Cruz had a huge weekend with a .857 average with three homeruns to drive in 12 RBI while senior right hander Tori Bayer tied an LSC single-season record with her eighth save of the season.
 
TRADITION NEVER GRADUATES
The Lady Buffs return nine letter-winners from last season's LSC Championship team that registered an overall record of 45-11, All-American selections Lacey Taylor, Stacey Ramirez and Allie Smith highlight the talented returning group that have led WT to back-to-back LSC Titles. Taylor and Ramirez are joined by Brittany Gehle, Tori Bayer and Andrea Sitter for a senior class that looks to become the winningest in program history as they have registered a 149-31 (82.8%) mark over the last three seasons in Canyon.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
The Lady Buffs have turned Schaeffer Park in Canyon into one of the top home environments in all of NCAA Division II Softball. WT is 167-27 (.860) at Schaeffer Park since the facility opened prior to the 2011 season including 71-13 (.845) during regular season Lone Star Conference games in Canyon. 2015 marked the fourth time in the last five years ('11, '13, '14, '15) that the Lady Buffs hosted NCAA Postseason action in Canyon.

MAKING HISTORY
The Lady Buffs became the fastest team in Division II to reach the 40-win plateau this season while becoming just be 19th team in Division II History to register a win streak of atleast 30 games as they are tied for 10th with Sacred Heart (1990) and Kennesaw State (1999). The 30-game win streak is the longest in Lone Star Conference history and the longest ever in the current South Central Region (Lone Star, Heartland, RMAC).
