#1 Lady Buffs Top Eastern New Mexico Twice, Extend Win Streak

CANYON, Texas – The top-ranked Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M finished off the month of March unbeaten as they ran their win streak to 18 games on Saturday afternoon with a pair of Lone Star Conference wins over the rival Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds at Schaeffer Park in Canyon.
 
The Lady Buffs continue their homestand on Wednesday afternoon as they welcome the reigning NCAA National Champion Patriots of UT Tyler to Schaeffer Park with first pitch of a doubleheader set for 5:00 p.m.
 
Game 1 – West Texas A&M 13, Eastern New Mexico 5 (6 Innings)
Christina Meneses put the Greyhounds on the board in the top of the first inning, lifting a solo homer to center with two outs for the 1-0 lead. WT answered in the bottom of the inning with a Trinity Kuntz two-run single to center followed by a Brooke Janning RBI groundout and an Emily Liskai infield single at 4-1.
 
Jordyn De Los Santos added to the WT lead in the second with a single to center to score Mya Chacon followed by an Abby Howell sacrifice popup and a Kuntz sacrifice squeeze for the 7-1 lead. ENMU cut into the lead in the top of the third inning as Meneses doubled to the gap in right center to score two at 7-3.
 
Eastern New Mexico cut into the lead in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI double to left center by Giazza Lopez. The Lady Buffs answered in the bottom of the frame on a Howell three-run homer to left center followed by a Kuntz solo shot for the 11-4 lead.
 
The Greyhounds used the long ball to cut into the lead with a solo homer to center by Ana Oquita at 11-5. The Lady Buffs would close out the win in the home half of the sixth as Heaven Moreno scored on an errant throw by the Hounds followed by a De Los Santos walkoff RBI single at 13-5.
 
Ava Sharp claimed the win (1-0) for the Lady Buffs, allowing three earned runs on four hits with three walks and no strikeouts in her 2.1 innings of relief.
 
Game 2 – West Texas A&M 3, Eastern New Mexico 2
Eastern New Mexico got on the board in the top of the first inning on a Lopez RBI single thru the left side to plate Samantha Parisi for the 1-0 lead.
 
WT used the long ball to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth as Howell lifted a solo shot to left center with two outs. ENMU responded in the top of the sixth on an Emily Marsh solo homer to left field with two outs for the 2-1 lead.
 
The Lady Buffs answered in the bottom of the frame as Liskai homered to center field with one out followed later in the frame by a Bella Holland RBI single to center to score Chacon for the 3-2 lead.
 
Laci Peskey claimed the win (14-2) in the circle, allowing two earned runs on six hits with three walks and eight strikeouts in the complete game win.
