CANYON, Texas – The #1 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M fell to the rival UT Tyler Patriots in a Lone Star Conference doubleheader on Wednesday night at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas.

The Lady Buffs close out Easter Weekend action on Friday night as they host the Texas Woman's Pioneers with first pitch of a doubleheader set for 4:00 p.m. in Canyon.

Game 1 – UT Tyler 13, West Texas A&M 5 (6 Innings)
The Patriots wasted little time jumping out to an early lead as Laci Berecochea and Taryn Barney connected on homeruns followed by a Kaelyn Lerma double to the gap in left center for the 4-0 lead. WT responded in the bottom of the frame as they loaded the bases with two outs before
Brooke Janning lifted a grand slam to center field at 4-4.

UT Tyler retook the lead in the top of the second inning on a Sydney Linn RBI single that drove in a pair followed by a Dezirae Lopez single thru the left side in the top of the third at 7-4. The Lady Buffs cut into the lead in the home half of the third on a
Cadence Colborn RBI infield single that scored
Jordyn De Los Santos at 7-5.

The Patriots added to their lead in the top of the fifth, taking advantage of a WT defensive miscue that scored Kaylee Cavazos followed by a Lopez RBI single. UTT wasn't done yet as Barney dropped a two-run single down the left field line for the 11-5 lead. The Patriots added to their lead in the sixth on a Layne Reh two-run double to the wall in left field to make it 13-5.

Brooke Janning picked up the loss (13-2) in the circle, allowing five earned runs on six hits with no walks and a strikeout in her 1.1 innings of work.

Game 2 – UT Tyler 2, West Texas A&M 0
The Patriots got on the board in the nightcap in the top of the second inning as Kaylee Cavazos lifted a sac fly to center with Linn tagging up to make it 1-0. UTT added to their lead in the top of the fifth inning as Laci Berecochea doubled to the gap in left center to score Reh for the 2-0 lead.

The Lady Buffs wouldn't go down without a fight in the bottom of the seventh as
Mya Chacon singled up the middle with one out but back-to-back strikeouts ended the game, 2-0.

Laci Peskey claimed the loss (14-3) for the Lady Buffs, allowing two earned runs on eight hits with no walks and five strikeouts in the complete game defeat.Â
