CANYON, Texas – The top-ranked Lady Buffs close out their homestand this week hosting UT Tyler and Texas Woman's at Schaeffer Park. Wednesday night features a rivalry doubleheader against the Patriots starting at 5:00 p.m. before WT closes out Eastern Weekend on Friday against the Pioneers at 4:00 p.m. in Canyon.
 
HELPING HANDS PANTRY
Join us in supporting the Helping Hands Pantry this Wednesday, fans that donate to the pantry before the game will receive a free WT Softball t-shirt while supplies last. 
 
The Helping Hands Pantry provides essential support to head start families and Region 16 employees who are in need. The pantry is accepting donations of: laundry detergent, cleaning products, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, bath and body soap, feminine hygiene products, diapers and non-perishable food items.
 
THIS IS LADY BUFF SOFTBALL
West Texas A&M Softball is in their 21st season of NCAA competition as the Lady Buffs are a staggering 812-328 (.712) since reviving the program prior to the 2006 campaign. WT has won three South Central Regional Championships (2014, 2016, 2021) along with a pair of NCAA Division II National Championships in 2014 and 2021.
 
2025 REWIND
The Lady Buffs capped off 2025 with a 56-8 overall record and 40-4 Lone Star Conference record. WT opened the campaign ranked 13th before quickly entering the top 10 of the NFCA poll. The Lady Buffs spent 10 weeks in the top five including three weeks at No. 1. WT earned a share of the Lone Star Conference regular season title for the second consecutive season.
 
WT HEAD COACH MICHAEL MOOK
In just six seasons, Michael Mook has led West Texas A&M to a 273-64 (.810) mark while claiming the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship. Mook is a two-time Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year (2024, 2025) who has led the Lady Buffs to four NCAA Postseason appearances (2021, 2023, 2024, 2025). Mook recently agreed to a three-year contract extension to keep him the WT dugout until atleast the Summer of 2028. 
 
A new era of Lady Buff softball began on June 20, 2019, as Mook was hired as the third head coach in program history. Mook went 154-61 during his four-year tenure at Valley City State University including an impressive 54-5 in 2019 leading the Vikings to their third-ever appearance at the NAIA World Series.
 
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
UT Tyler enters the weekend with an overall record of 28-8 with a 20-4 mark in LSC play, sitting second in the league standings as they ride a three-game win streak into Wednesday night. The Patriots are 11-3 on the road so far this season with road defeats at Texas Woman's and Angelo State (twice). Last week saw UTT split with Lubbock Christian on Friday before topping Midwestern State twice on Sunday.
 
The Patriots are hitting .322 on the season with 248 runs scored on 305 hits, they have 91 extra-base hits highlighted by 18 homers to drive in 217 RBI. Kaelyn Lerma leads the way offensively as the freshman from Katy is hitting .314 with 10 doubles and two triples to drive in a team-best 34 RBI for a slugging percentage of .448.
 
Alli Kimball is 6-1 in the circle with a 1.78 ERA as the junior transfer from Western Washington has allowed 23 runs (14 earned) on 54 hits with 15 walks and 30 strikeouts in her 55.0 innings of work. Kearston Gooch leads UTT with 10 victories as the junior from Baytown, Texas is 10-2 with a 2.40 ERA, striking out 41 batters in 73.0 frames while allowing 29 runs (25 earned) on 75 hits.
 
UTT INTERIM HEAD COACH JASON MILLER
Jason Miller is in his first season with the Patriots, being named the program's interim head coach in January following the transition of Mike Reed into a full-time athletic administration role. Miller joined the Patriots after a successful run as an assistant coach at both Grayson College and Oklahoma Baptist.
 
THE SERIES
Wednesday night marks the 21st and 22nd all-time meeting between the Lady Buffs and Patriots on the softball diamond. The series dates back to 2021 and eight of the 20 meeting have taken place in either the LSC Tournament or the NCAA Tournament. The Patriots are 3-6 at Schaeffer Park, last season saw six meeting between the two teams as UTT topped the Lady Buffs in the South Central Super Regionals on their way to their second straight NCAA DII National Championship.
 
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Texas Woman's enters the week 22-16 overall including 16-8 in Lone Star Conference play. The Pioneers are 10-4 away from Denton this season. TWU closed out a six-game homestand last weekend as they split LSC doubleheaders with both Midwestern State and Lubbock Christian.
 
Marissa Espinoza leads the way offensively for the Pioneers as the junior from Keller, Texas is hitting .380 with 11 doubles and four homeruns to drive in a team-best 33 RBI for a slugging percentage of .558 as she is also 19-of-23 on stolen base attempts.
 
Randi Crawford has been the go-to in the circle for the Pioneers, making 21 appearances with 17 starts as the sophomore righty is 12-2 with a 2.03 ERA. The Blossom, Texas product has allowed 35 runs (30 earned) on 78 hits with 12 walks and 107 strikeouts in her 103.1 innings for an opposing average of .205.
 
TWU HEAD COACH GAY McNUTT
Veteran head coach Gay McNutt is in her fourth season leading the Texas Woman's softball program. The former Texas A&M All-American has head coaching stops at East Texas A&M, Stephen F. Austin, Southern Mississippi and Northwestern State. McNutt helped the Aggies win a pair of National Championships during her playing career in College Station (1982, 1983).
 
THE SERIES
The Lady Buffs and Pioneers meet for the 67th and 68th time on Friday night as WT holds the 40-24 advantage in a series that dates back to 2006. The Pioneers are 14-19 all-time in Canyon. Last season saw the two teams split a Lone Star Conference doubleheader in Canyon, WT picked up a 10-0 shutout win in the opener before TWU responded with a 4-0 victory in the nightcap to hand the Lady Buffs one of their four shutout losses of 2025.
