Big Second Inning Powers the Lady Buffs Past St. Thomas Aquinas, 10-2

CANYON, TEXAS – The #6 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M found their rhythm at the plate on Saturday morning as they plated nine runs in the second inning on their way to a 10-2 run-rule victory over the St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans during an elimination game at the NCAA Division II College World Series at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The Lady Buffs got on the board in the home half of the first inning as WT took advantage of a Spartans defensive miscue with two outs as Abby Howell scored from second base for the 1-0 lead.

WT added to their lead in the second inning as Avery Cannon lined a two-run double to center field that started a nine-run frame by the Lady Buffs. Bella Holland layed down a squeeze bunt to score Heaven Moreno followed by a Jordyn De Los Santos single down the left field line that scored Holland, setting a new Lone Star Conference single season RBI record (96). The Lady Buffs weren't done yet as Howell crushed a three-run shot to left field followed by an Emily Liskai two-run single for the 10-0 lead.

St. Thomas Aquinas responded in the top of the fourth inning as Sofia Marella two-run homerun to left field to make it 10-2.

The eight-run cushion was more than enough for the Lady Buffs as Laci Peskey moved to 23-5 in the circle, allowing two earned runs on four hits with a walk in her three frames while Reagan Sucher allowed just one hit with a pair of strikeouts over the final two innings.

The Lady Buffs move onto another elimination game this afternoon as they take on #5 Missouri Southern with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CT. The start time could change due to weather or the length of the Glenville State/North Georgia contest.
