2026 West Texas A&M Recap
2026 saw another historic season for Head Coach Michael Mook and the Lady Buffs as they posted a 54-10 record with a 36-4 mark in the LSC. The Lady Buffs opened the season ranked No. 8 in the country and worked their way up to the top spot as they surged to a 25-3 record. WT stayed inside the top six the rest of the way. Winning the final 12 games of the regular season, WT threepeated as Lone Star Conference Regular Season Champions, but this time claimed it outright. The Lady Buffs would fall in the semifinals of the LSC Tournament but ultimately went dancing to the NCAA Tournament and hosted the South Central Region for the fourth consecutive season.
The Lady Buffs cruised through the region as a 13-5 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville sent WT back to the Super Regionals. A 3-0 victory in a winner-take-all game against No. 22 Oklahoma Christian brought the Lady Buffs back to the College World Series for the first time since 2021. WT would drop the opening game to No. 4 Cal State San Marcos 5-4 in nine innings before a strong 10-2 win over St. Thomas Aquinas and a 6-3 nine-inning thrilling win over No. 5 Missouri Southern State kept the season alive. The Lady Buffs would drop a heartbreaking 5-4 game in the tenth inning to the eventual National Champion Saint Leo as their season came to a close.
10 Lady Buffs would earn All-LSC Honors (six First-Team, two Second-Team, and two Third-Team) with
Jordyn De Los Santos winning LSC Player of the Year. Mook would be LSC Coach of the Year for the third time in his career. Across the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA), seven Lady Buffs would earn All-Region Honors with De Los Santos earning D2CCA South Central Region Player of the Year. De Los Santos would go on to claim the D2CCA Ron Lenz National Player of the Year and be named an All-American along with
Trinity Kuntz,
Bella Holland, and
Brooke Janning. Janning would also earn National Freshman of the Year. As a team, WT set a new program and LSC record with 116 home runs.
Holland and Jannings both return to the Lady Buffs for the upcoming season.
2026 Texas Tech Recap
For the Red Raiders, they produced another elite season behind a 61-10 mark in the second season under Head Coach Gerry Glasco. Texas Tech would open the season as a consensus top two team in the country across four different national polls and stayed within the top five for the entirety of 2026. TTU would repeat as the Regular Season Champions in the Big 12 with a 21-3 mark in conference play after sweeping Arizona State on April 26. Texas Tech would reach the Big 12 Tournament Championship with wins over Baylor and Kansas before falling to Arizona State by score of 4-0.
The Red Raiders still reached the NCAA Tournament as they hosted the Regional Tournament at Tracy Sellers Field for the second straight season in Lubbock. TTU came away with three wins, two of which against Ole Miss to repeat as Region Champions. Off to Gainesville, Florida to take on the Gators in Super Regionals, the teams would head to a deciding game three after TTU won game one 10-8 before Florida responded with a 10-2 victory. The Red Raiders commandingly won the game with a 16-7 win in five innings to return to the College World Series.
In Oklahoma City, Texas Tech would take down Mississippi State in their first game before falling to Tennessee 2-1 in nine innings. Three straight wins headlined by two over top ranked Alabama propelled them back to the National Championship match where they would once again face-off against Texas. They would ultimately lose both games as they finished as the National Runner-Up for the second straight season.
Seven Red Raiders (Four First Team, Three Second Team) would earn All-Big 12 Honors while Glasco would be named Big 12 Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
