CANYON, Texas – The #1 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M return to the friendly confines of Schaeffer Park this weekend as they continue Lone Star Conference action with a Saturday doubleheader against the rival Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Canyon.
 
THIS IS LADY BUFF SOFTBALL
West Texas A&M Softball is in their 21st season of NCAA competition as the Lady Buffs are a staggering 810-328 (.712) since reviving the program prior to the 2006 campaign. WT has won three South Central Regional Championships (2014, 2016, 2021) along with a pair of NCAA Division II National Championships in 2014 and 2021.
 
2025 REWIND
The Lady Buffs capped off 2025 with a 56-8 overall record and 40-4 Lone Star Conference record. WT opened the campaign ranked 13th before quickly entering the top 10 of the NFCA poll. The Lady Buffs spent 10 weeks in the top five including three weeks at No. 1. WT earned a share of the Lone Star Conference regular season title for the second consecutive season.
 
WT HEAD COACH MICHAEL MOOK
In just six seasons, Michael Mook has led West Texas A&M to a 271-64 (.809) mark while claiming the 2021 NCAA Division II National Championship. Mook is a two-time Lone Star Conference Coach of the Year (2024, 2025) who has led the Lady Buffs to four NCAA Postseason appearances (2021, 2023, 2024, 2025). Mook recently agreed to a three-year contract extension to keep him the WT dugout until atleast the Summer of 2028. A new era of Lady Buff softball began on June 20, 2019, as Mook was hired as the third head coach in program history. Mook went 154-61 during his four-year tenure at Valley City State University including an impressive 54-5 in 2019 leading the Vikings to their third-ever appearance at the NAIA World Series.
 
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
Eastern New Mexico enters the weekend with an overall record of 14-13 with a 10-10 mark in Lone Star Conference action as they sit tied for eighth in the league standings. The Greyhounds picked up two run-rule wins at Midwestern State (11-2, 13-1) last Friday before dropping two contests at Lubbock Christian on Sunday by a combined score of 15-3.
 
The Greyhounds are hitting .288 as a team this season with 35 doubles, four triples and 22 homeruns to drive in 144 RBI, scoring 159 runs on 193 hits for a slugging percentage of .451 while ranking 19th in Division II Softball in walks with 124. Christina Meneses leads the way offensively as the sophomore from Glendale, Arizona is hitting .409 with four doubles, a triple and five homers to drive in a team-best 26 RBI with 18 walks and 10 strikeouts for an on-base percentage of .534.
 
Eastern New Mexico holds a staff ERA of 5.73 this season, allowing 159 runs (136 earned) on 212 hits with 97 walks and 130 strikeouts in 166.0 frames. Miranda Guillen has been the ace of the pitching staff, going 6-5 with a 4.63 ERA as the sophomore from El Paso has allowed 46 runs (43 earned) on 76 hits with 35 walks and 64 strikeouts during her 65.0 innings of work with six complete games and an opposing batting average of .290.
 
ENMU HEAD COACH AMANDA FEFEL
Amanda Fefel joined the program in the summer of 2021 and is in her fifth season with the Greyhounds in 2026. Additionally, Fefel serves as the Senior Woman's Administrator for the athletics department, taking on the role in Spring 2024.
 
Fefel has registered an overall record of 114-124 during her time in Portales. She arrived in New Mexico following two seasons as an Assistant Softball Coach and Pitching Coach at Appalachian State. Her first head coaching position came at nearby Clarendon Community College where she had an overall record of 183-95 in five seasons with the Bulldogs. Fefel registered a standout collegiate playing career at Maryland-Baltimore County where she was a four-time All-Conference selection.
 
THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon marks the 75th and 76th all-time meetings on the diamond between the Lady Buffs and Greyhounds in a series that dates back to 2006. The Lady Buffs are 58-16 in the series including 15-4 in Canyon. WT picked up a pair of LSC run-rule road wins in Portales back on February 14th (10-2, 9-1). The 2025 campaign saw the Lady Buffs and Greyhounds meet four times with West Texas A&M winning all four matchups by a combined score of 46-8.  
 
NFCA/GOROUT DIVISION II TOP 25 COACHES POLL
West Texas A&M remains atop of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top-25 Poll for the second straight week as they claimed all 16 first place votes for a unanimous total of 400 points. Cal State San Marcos (383) sits second followed by Cal State East Bay (350), Auburn-Montgomery (348), North Georgia (328), Saint Leo (322), Pittsburg State (321), Southern Arkansas (292) and Angelo State (258) to round out the top ten. The South Central Region was represented by WT (1st), Angelo State (10th), Oklahoma Christian (12th) and Colorado Christian (!4th).
 
LONE STAR CONFERENCE HITTER OF THE WEEK
Jordyn De Los Santos hit .563 (9-for-16) with two home runs, three doubles and eight RBI to lead the No. 1-ranked Lady Buffs to doubleheader road sweeps of Midwestern State and Lubbock Christian. De Los Santos, who wins the league's top weekly hitting award for the second straight week and third time this season, also scored six runs and did not strike out. She walked twice and stole two bases. De Los Santos had at least two hits – with one being for extra bases – in all four games. She has hit safely in 23 straight games and has helped WT win 16 games in a row. De Los Santos leads the conference in RBI (52), runs scored (49), slugging percentage (1.119) and OPS (1.679).
