Final Results
CANYON, Texas – The No. 3 Buffs of West Texas A&M hosted the WT Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the WTAMU Track & Field Complex where they won five events including 17 Top 10 finishes and five provisional marks.
The quartet of Theo Piniau, William Frobe, Nicolai Hartling and Quinton Sansing put on a show in the men's 4x400-meter relay running the fourth-fastest time in program history and punch their ticket to Nationals. After strong legs from Piniau, Frobe and Hartling, Sansing battled with Western Texas College's Rayan Butler over the final 100 meters to cross the finish line in 3:09.39.
Earlier in the day, Sansing finished third in the 200-meters running the third-fastest time in program history. The sophomore broke 21 seconds for the second time in his career crossing the finish line in 20.92 while Davion Chisolm finished 13thrunning 21.99.
The Buffs went 3-4 in one of the fastest 400-meter hurdles races at WTAMU Track & Field Complex as WTC''s Ned Azemia broke the facility record. Frobe finished third running 52.24 followed closely by Hartling in fourth at 52.32.
Tyrin Lewis had a busy day as the junior ran a personal best in two different events while running the first leg of the 4x100-meter that won. The junior finished first in the 110-meter hurdles running 14.25 followed by a fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.56. He also ran on the 4x100m relay that defeated Wayland Baptist and Southwest Baptist. Nathan Stotts finished 11thin the 100m running 10.76.
Reid Splawn was victorious in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:53.57 after competing in the event for the first time since his freshman season. Jacob Suchors recorded a runner-up finish in the 800-meters running 1:59.31 with Marcus Flores finishing fourth in 2:02.42. Miguel Garcia finished third in the 5,000-meters running 16:50.00.
Abraham Seaneke won the long jump with a wind-aided jump of 26-6.25 ((8.08m) which makes him of one 17 Division II student-athletes to ever jump over 8 meters in any conditions. The senior also broke his own school record with a wind legal jump of 25-5 (7.75m) on his third attempt. Cody West finished fourth in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 45-9.75 (13.96m).
Paolo Lazaric tied for first in the high jump with Angelo State's Maxime Lapeyrie with a clearance of 6-6.75 (2.00m) while Jimmie Vaughn finished third in the pole vault with a clearance of 15-3 (4.65m).
Tyler Pickens picked up a victory in the shot put for the Buffs with a toss of 52-2 (15.90m) to defeat ASU's Dillen Littles and Cameron Cross. He would later finish third in the hammer throw with a mark of 158-7 (48.25m). Xavier Rivera finished fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 148-1 (45.13m).
At the Beach Invitational in California, Butare Rugenerwa finished 24thin the 800-meters running 1:53.27 less than 24 hours after running a personal best at the Bryan Clay Invitational. Brandon Rivera finished 50thrunning 1:55.68.
