Conde-Turpin Makes History on Thursday at the Texas Relays

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M senior Esther Conde-Turpin set a new Division II Outdoor record in the women's heptathlon on Thursday during the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
 
Conde-Turpin cemented herself as one of the top all-around athletes in Division II history, setting a new DII Outdoor record in the women's heptathlon, breaking an 11-year-old record with 6,161 points to top Salcia Slack of New Mexico Highlands's mark of 6,141 back on April 10, 2015 at the Jim Click Combined in Tucson, Arizona. The French product broke a school record in the 100m hurdles on Wednesday along with the second best WT mark in the high jump before closing out the DII record on Thursday.
 
100m Hurdles – 13.34 – 2nd (WT School Record)
High Jump – 1.79m – 1st (2nd in WT History)
Shot Put – 13.85m – 1st
200m – 24.54 – 8th
Long Jump – 5,78m – 2nd
Javelin – 43.86m – 1st (10th in WT History)
800m – 2:15.66 – 2nd
 
Emiliia Tangara set a new school record in the women's 400m hurdles prelims with a time of 57.76, qualifying for the finals. The Russian product would break her own record in the finals with a time of 56.41 in the finals. Asana Hamidu finished 25th in the prelims with a time of 1:00.58 for the 12th best mark in DII this season.

Abigail Abugire ran the third best mark in school history in the outdoor 800m with a 2:04.38 to finish second overall in the 18-runner field followed by Sierra Cornell in eighth (2:11.08) which ranks eighth in school history. 
 
Fran Bonifacic continued his impressive start in Maroon & White as the NCAA Indoor National Champion registered the third-best total in program history in the men's decathlon with 7,526 points to win the event in Austin. Nikolas Kosmopoulos finished ninth in the second-largest outdoor meet in the country with 6,886 points.

Isaac Botsio ran the fastest time in Division II so far this season in the 100m prelims (10.04) to tie the seventh best mark in school history with James Dadzie running a 10.05, tying the ninth spot of WT's outdoor Top-10 list. Toby Makoyawo ran a 10.53 in his section of the 100m, the 22nd best mark in DII this season.

Saturday's action in Austin featured inclement weather as WT did not run in the finals of the 100m, 200m and the 4x400m relay.

West Texas A&M returns to the track next weekend as they host the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi in Canyon.
