Canyon, Texas. – West Texas A&M Track & Field has announced the hiring of Luke Holcombe as an Assistant Coach. The Buff alumni served as a volunteer assistant coach for the 2025-26 season and will work with the throwers. 
 
"I am incredibly grateful to Coach Stewart for giving me this opportunity and for allowing me to continue being a part of West Texas A&M and the program that gave me so much as a student-athlete," said Holcombe. "WT has a strong tradition of excellence in track and field, and I am excited to help continue that tradition while developing the next generation of throwers. I look forward to bringing my experiences as a student-athlete into my coaching role and helping our athletes reach their full potential both in and out of the rings." 
 
A decorated student-athlete with the Buffs, Holcombe concluded his collegiate career as a five-time NCAA Division II National Qualifier and the current WT indoor and outdoor school record holder in the shot put. During his time as a Buffalo, he earned four USTFCCCA All-Region honors and 12 Lone Star Conference medals, including seven First Team selections. Holcombe was also named the 2024 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Outstanding Field Athlete, receiving the Oscar Strahan Award in recognition of his accomplishments.
 
The Floydada, Texas native earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Exercise Science from West Texas A&M. He served as a volunteer assistant coach with the WT track and field program this past season where he primarily worked with the program's multi-event athletes in the throwing events. With the Buffs and Lady Buffs this past year, Holcombe coached LSC Outdoor Champions in Mahmoud Ibrahim (shot put) and Esther Conde-Turpin (javelin throw).
 
Holcombe is also a USATF Level 1 Certified Coach.
