Top Ranked Lady Buffs Host the 2016 LSC Championship This Weekend at Schaeffer Park

CANYON, Texas –
The Lone Star Conference Champion Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M begin postseason play this weekend as they host the 2016 Lone Star Conference Championship at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas beginning on Friday afternoon.
 
TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE
The Lions enter the weekend with an overall record of 36-16 with a 18-14 mark in LSC play to claim the fourth seed in the tournament.
 
The Lions are led offensively by Kylene Hatton who is hitting .350 this season with 12 doubles and seven homeruns to drive in 34 RBI for a slugging% of .606. In the circle, Commerce is paced by Brittany Woolridge who is 10-2 on the season with a 2.61 ERA and six complete games to go along with 52 strikeouts in her 88.2 innings of work with a .264 opponent batting average.
 
TAMUC is hitting .323 as a team to go along with 72 doubles, eight triples, 44 homeruns and 313 RBI for a team slugging percentage of .474 with 74 combined errors for a fielding clip of .950 while stealing 166 bases this season. In the circle, TAMUC has a 3.40 combined ERA with 18 complete games and three shutouts with 254 strikeouts in 341.2 innings with an opposing batting average of .261.
 
ANGELO STATE
Angelo State enters the weekend with an overall record of 35-20 with 17-15 mark in LSC play for the fifth seed this weekend.
 
ASU is led offensively by junior Kenedy Urbany who is hitting .393 with 14 doubles, a triple and 11 homeruns to drive in 48 RBI while Bailey Wallace is hitting .378 with 13 doubles and 37 RBI on the season. In the circle, LSC Preseason Pitcher of the Year Brandy Marlett is 17-9 on the year with 16 complete games and a 2.61 ERA in her 168.2 innings of work with 171 strikeouts and an opponent batting averge of .219.
 
The Belles are hitting .322 as a team to go along with 81 doubles, 11 triples, 22 homeruns and 304 RBI for a team slugging percentage of .435 with 42 combined errors for a fielding clip of .973. In the circle, ASU has a 3.07 combined ERA with 28 complete games and six shutouts with 300 strikeouts in 369.2 innings with an opposing batting average of .259.
 
NFCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (APR. 27)
The Lone Star Conference Champion Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M became the first team in Division II to reach the 50-win plateau as they remain atop of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) DII Top-25 Poll announced on Wednesday morning by the association's offices in Louisville, Kentucky.
 
WT picked up 15 of the possible 16 first place votes for a total of 399 points followed by Indianapolis (1 first place, 385), Humboldt State (368), North Alabama (347), North Georgia (341), Missouri-St. Louis (313), California, Pa. (295), Arkansas Tech (294), St. Mary's (262) and Saint Leo (259) to round out the top ten. The South Central Region was represented by WT, St. Mary's (9th), Colorado Mesa (20th), and Metro State (RV).
 
NATIONALLY SPEAKING (APR. 25)
The Lady Buffs have the nation's best offense with a .371 team batting average while leading the nation with 2.33 doubles per game, a .475 on base percentage while scoring 9.00 runs per contest.
 
– WT ranks first in slugging percentage (.627) while coming in fith with 1.33 homeruns per game and ranking first in win/loss percentage at .962.
 
– Senior Stacey Ramirez ranks 27th in the country in batting average (.442) and seventh in runs per game (1.19). Fellow senior Tori Bayer leads Division II in saves this season with 10 while Lacey Taylor ranks fifth in on-base percentage (.569) and third in walks per game (0.92).
 
– Sophomore outfielder Ashley Hardin leads the Lady Buffs with 15 home runs which ranks 16th in the nation. WT has three players in the Top-50 in RBI this season with Hardin (7th, 61), Brittany Cruz (7th, 61) and Taylor (31st, 50).
 
A LOOK BACK (TWU SERIES RECAP)
The Lady Buffs ran their win streak to 14 games this past weekend as they swept past Texas Woman's. WT finishes the regular season with an overall record of 50-2 to mark the second time in program history (2014, 50-4) that WT has reached the 50-win plateau in the regular season while setting a new LSC mark for conference wins in a season with 30.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
The Lady Buffs have turned Schaeffer Park in Canyon into one of the top home environments in all of NCAA Division II Softball. WT is 168-27 (.860) at Schaeffer Park since the facility opened prior to the 2011 season including 71-13 (.845) during regular season Lone Star Conference games in Canyon. 2015 marked the fourth time in the last five years ('11, '13, '14, '15) that the Lady Buffs hosted NCAA Postseason action in Canyon.

MAKING HISTORY
The Lady Buffs became the fastest team in Division II to reach the 50-win plateau this season while becoming just be 19th team in Division II History to register a win streak of atleast 30 games as they are tied for 10th with Sacred Heart (1990) and Kennesaw State (1999). The 30-game win streak is the longest in LSC history and the longest ever in the current South Central Region (Lone Star, Heartland, RMAC).
 
SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL RANKINGS (APR. 27)
The Lady Buffs sit atop of the poll followed by #9 St. Mary's, Texas Woman's, #20 Colorado Mesa Texas A&M-Commerce, Angelo State, Cameron Lubbock Christian, Metro State and Midwestern State. The NCAA will host an online selection show taking place on NCAA.com on Monday, May 2nd at 9:00 a.m. CT to announce the 64-team field with eight selections coming from the South Central Region. Winners of the LSC, Heartland and RMAC Tournament will receive an automatic bid into the regional with the final five spots being determined by the NCAA selection committee as at-large selections.
 
If the playoffs started today, West Texas A&M would host a double-elimination regional tournament against #20 Colorado Mesa, Texas A&M-Commerce and Lubbock Christian in Canyon while Texas Woman's, Angelo State and Cameron would travel to San Antonio to face-off with #9 St. Mary's.
