CANYON, Texas – The Buffaloes set a pair of new Lone Star Conference Indoor Championship record as they won four gold medals during the opening day of the LSC Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

David Richards started off the day in Albuquerque with the heptathlon as the Florida product claimed 2,552 points during the first four events to sit third headed into Saturday.Â

Luke Holcombe continued to impress as the Floydada product finished second in the weigh throw with a mark of 18.06m (59'3") followed by
Ethan Hollinshead in 10
th (14.50m) and
Brocc Brodecky in 14
th (13.09m).
Lance Ottinger would lead the way for the Buffs in the pole vault with a 4.49m (14'8 ½") to finish sixth overall.

Troy Whyte was one-of-three Buffs to qualify for the men's 60m hurdles as Whyte ran a time of 7.86 to tie the ninth fastest indoor time in program history followed by Richards (8.09) and
Romet Vahter (8.19).
Aymeric Fermely would punch his ticket to the 400m finals with a time of 47.71.

Three Buffs advanced to the men's 60m finals as
James Dadzie (6.772),
Isaac Botsio (6.727) and
Jerry Jakpa (6.81) moved onto tomorrow. The 400m saw three Buffs qualify for Saturday:
Prince Mcabelo (1:50.64),
Jordan Purcell (1:53.68) and
Shane Ketchum (1:54.58) with Mcabelo tying himself for ninth on WT's all-time indoor list in the event.

Romet Vahter won the first event of the day for the Buffs in the men's long jump with a mark of 7.26m (23'10") followed by
Cecil Dosoo in sixth (7.08m) and Gael Robles in eighth (6.83m).

The men's distance crew continued to impress as the Buffs claimed the top-five spots in the men's 5K finals highlighted by
William Amponsah winning the LSC Title and setting a new LSC Indoor Championship recprd with a mark of 14:12.36 followed by Dennie Cheruiyot in 2
nd (14:27.40),
Adrian Legarreta in 3
rd (14:29.36),
Enrico Oddone in 4
th (14:50.50) and
Harry Louradour in 5
th(15:10.78).

Hamdi Ali won the LSC Title in the men's high jump with a 2.12m (6' 11½") for the third gold medal of the day for the Buffaloes followed by Vahter in 5
th (1.92m).
Jerry Jakpa tied the second fastest mark in school history in the 200m with a 20.88 to advance to Saturday's finals, the fastest time in the prelims.

The Buffs closed out the night with a new LSC Indoor Championship record in the men's distance medley relay (
Calvin Allen,
Jamill Phillips,
Prince Mcabelo,
Aziz Mohammed) with a time of 9:56.75.

The 2025 LSC Indoor Championships will be awarded on Saturday in the Land of Enchantment as action starts at 11:00 a.m. in Albuquerque.
