KINGSVILLE, Texas – West Texas A&M's
Noah Bundrock finished day two of the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championships on top of the podium as the Buffs stand second with 63 points, just one point behind Texas A&M-Commerce.
The Buffs went 1-2 in the men's steeplechase with
Noah Bundrock finishing atop the podium. The junior made his way up to the front on the seventh lap to cross the line in 9:05.28 followed by teammate
Innocent Murwanashyaka running 9:20.00.
Benjamin Azamati,
Jalen Purcell,
Desmond Aryee and
Sifiso Miya each advanced to the finals of the 100-meter dash led by Azamati. The Akim Oda, Ghana native ran the second-fastest NCAA Division II time of 9.96 to break his own championship meet record.
Bassem Hemeida ran the fastest time in the prelims at 51.56 to qualify for the finals along with
William Frobe. Three Buffs will move on in the 400m with
Quinton Sansing,
Malick Diop and
Ohdel James.
Butare Rugenerwa ran 1:53.62 to advance to the finals of 800-meter run and will be joined by
Abdelrahim Mahgoub who ran the third-fastest prelim time.
In the field,
Luke Holcombe led the way in the discus for the Buffs as the freshman threw a season-best 159-1.0 (48.49m).
Ray Dixon placed eighth at 152-4.0 (46.43m) and
Jon Tucker in 11
th at 140-10.0 (42.93m).
Freshman
Seniru Amarasinghe placed fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 6-6.75 (2.00m) while
Traise Cain finished eighth in the decathlon with 5,678 points.
The final day of competition gets underway at 11 a.m. with the javelin while track events are scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay.
