CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M had another successful weekend as the No. 7 Buffs combined for seven provisional marks at the GVSU Big Meet in Allendale, Mich. and Texas Tech Shootout in Lubbock.
GVSU Big Meet
Butare Rugenerwa stayed consistent in the 800-meter as the Amarillo product finished second with a time of 1:49.89 followed by
Abdelrahim Mahgoub in ninth in 1:50.60. Rugenerwa returned to the track to run 4:17.59 in the mile.
Innocent Murwanashyaka was the top finisher for the Buffs in the 5,000m in eighth after running a personal-best 14:26.90, which is the fourth-fastest time in program history.
Harry Louradour also had a strong performance with a fourth place finish in the third heat running a 14:31.87 time.
Murwanashyaka and Louradour also competed in the 3,000m event finishing sixth and seventh. Murwanashyaka ran 8:24.43 followed by Louradour at 8:24.68.
Noah Bundrock finished 15
th in the competition running 8:39.60 followed by
Jay Hall (19
th; 8:39.60) and
Briggs Wittlake (28
th; 8:48.72).
Texas Tech Shootout
Freshman
Gustavo Posada picked up a win the 5,000-meter run where he ran 14:38.15 before he returning to run 8:53.31 in the 3,000m.
Luke Holcombe won the Section B shot put with a personal-best 54-4.0 (16.56m) mark on his fifth attempt.
Ray Dixon recorded the program's second-best mark in the weight throw after finishing sixth. The junior finished ahead of Angelo States Canon Andrewes with a throw of 59-7.0 (18.16m).
Benjamin Azamati picked up a provisional mark in the 200m dash after finishing seventh beside Oklahoma's Demarius Smith running 21.08 to rank third in the nation with the second-fastest time in program history.
Brian Nganga finished 19
th in the 800m with a personal-best time of 1:55.86.
Malick Diop led the herd in Section B of the 400m run with a Top 10 performance running 49.73 to finish eighth.
Jalen Purcell ran a personal-best in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.70 to qualify for the finals.
Tyrin Lewis ran 7.88 in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles to qualify for the finals where he finished seventh behind Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Ketavion Humber.
Sifiso Miya led in the long jump with a mark of 23-0.5 (7.02m) followed by
Peniel Richard at 21-5.25 (6.53m) before the duo competed in the triple jump on Saturday. Richard recorded a 49-1.5 (14.97m) mark while Miya reached 48-11.0 (14.91m) for the duo to finish sixth and seventh.
