Two Records Fall at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational on Saturday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – West Texas A&M graduate student Tyrin Lewis broke the school record in the 60-meter hurdles on Saturday afternoon at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico.  Junior Ray Dixon also broke his own school record in the weight throw as the Buffs picked up 10 NCAA Division II provisional marks. 
 
Lewis ended up with a runner-up finish in the 60-meter hurdles where he ran 7.77 to break the previous record set by Lorenzo Johnson in 2015 at 7.79.  The Amarillo native broke the record in the finals and now ranks second in the nation.  Christian Marshall also finished sixth with a time of 8.15 in his collegiate debut. 
 
Dixon broke his own record in the weight throw where he placed fifth with a throw of 59-9.00 (18.21m) on his sixth attempt of the event, passing his previous record of 59-2.25 (18.04).  The Llano, Texas product now has 9-of-10 the programs top throws in the weight throw.
 
Jalen Purcell had a strong performance in the 60-meter dash where he ran 6.77 in his made his season debut for the Maroon & White in the 60-meter dash to finish third overall.
 
Jeremiah Lauzon made his season debut in the 200m dash, setting a new personal record as the top finisher for the Buffs ran 21.15 to finish third while William Frobe followed at 21.45.  
 
Malick Diop finished seventh in the 400-meters running close to a personal best in in 49.77.In the 800-meters, Abdelrahim Mahgoub finished fifth with a time of 1:54.84.  
 
The Buffs had two Top 10 performances in the 3,000-meters led by Innocent Murwanashyaka.  The junior ran 8:33.08 in his season debut to finish followed by Harry Louradour with a personal-best time of 8:38.44 for the duo to finish sixth and seventh. 
 
Senior Peniel Richard finished third overall in the triple jump with a mark of 49-7.75 (15.13) in the triple jump. Gerard Bryant also finished 13th in the long jump after reaching a new personal best on his second attempt at 21-8.25 (6.61m).
 
Traise Cain finished fifth in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 14-6.25 (4.43m).  He cleared the first three heights but was unable to get past 4.58m
