CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M's Quinton Sansing and Lorenzo Johnson are now rank in the Top 5 nationally in their respective events following the final day of the WT A&M Classic & Multi on Saturday afternoon in Canyon.
Sansing continued his impressive weekend as the sophomore finished second in the 200-meter dash in the third-fastest time in the nation. The Floresville, Texas native was the top Division II finisher in 21.01 which is the fifth-fastest time in program history. Theo Piniau also ran well to finish 10th, 21.70 with Davion Chisolm finishing 15th(21.96) and Giovanni Pieters in 22nd(22.78). Chisolm would also finish 14thin the 400-meters running 51.75.Â
Lorenzo Johnson recorded a runner-up finish in the 110-meter hurdles in the third-fastest time in Division II this season. The senior ran 14.14 to finish ahead of teammate Tyrin Lewis, who finished third running 14.51.Â
Nathan Stotts was the top finisher in the 100-meter dash for the Buffs in fifth as the sophomore ran 10.69 out of the second heat. Lewis finished seventh running 10.71 while Abraham Seaneke switched things up running 11.14. The men's 4x100-meter relay of Lewis, Sansing, Piniau and Stotts finished second running 40.68 while the quartet of Chisolm, Piniau and Nicolai Hartling finished third in the 4x400-meter relay running 3:17.67.Â
Ezekiel Kipchirchir had an impressive season opener in the 3,000-meter steeplechase as the junior finished second running under the previous facility record. His time of 9:17.76 is the seventh-fastest time in program history and provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Championships. Emmanuel Too finished third in 9:53.51 followed by Butare Rugenerwa in fourth (10:12.05).Â
The Buffs finished 2-3-4-5 in the 10,000-meter led by the second-place finish of Reid Splawn with the senior running 34:19.62. Miguel Garcia was third (35:36.14) followed by Justin Vigil in fourth (36:34.83) and Marcus Flores in fifth (37:30.03).Â
In the field events, Paolo Lazaric recorded a runner-up finish in the high jump with a seasonal best clearance of 6-8 (2.03m) to finish behind Washburn's Tom Haug. Cody West finished sixth in the triple jump with a seasonal best mark of 45-1 (13.38m).Â
Tyler Pickens recorded a Top 5 finish in the men's shot put with Xavier Rivera recording a Top 10 finish in the discus. Pickens finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 52-6 (16.00m) while Rivera had a mark of 154-6 (47.10m) to finish sixth.Â
The Buffs return to competition on April 12-13 at the Ross Black Invitational hosted by New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, N.M.Â
