Day One Results
CANYON, Texas – No. 3 West Texas A&M had a successful first day of the West Texas A&M Classic & Multi on Friday afternoon winning two events while picking up four provisional marks.
Quinton Sansing moved up to first in the nation in the 400-meters as the sophomore won the event by close to second. The Floresville, Texas native crossed the finish line in 46.66, which is the eighth-fastest time in program history.Â
William Frobe moved up to first in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles after running seasonal best time of 51.65. That is also the 10thfastest time in program history for the freshman while teammate Giovanni Pieters finished sixth running 55.98.Â
Nicolai Hartling finished third in one of the fastest 800-meter races run at the WTAMU Track & Field Complex in a personal best time of 1:51.40, which is the sixth-fastest time in program in history. Butare Rugenerwa also picked up a provisional qualifier after running a personal best time of 1:52.16 to finish fourth. Brandon Rivera finished sixth in 1:52.71 while Jacob Suchors was seventh in 1:53.50. Marcus Flores finished ninth in the 1,500-meters running 4:20.49.Â
Jimmie Vaughn picked up a win for the Buffs in the pole vault with a clearance of 15-7 (4.75m) which ties him for the fourth-best clearance of program history. Tyler Pickens finished fourth in the hammer throw with a personal best toss of 157-11 (48.14m).
The Buffs return for the final day of competition on Saturday, April 6, beginning with the high jump at 1 p.m. with track events scheduled to start at 3 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay.Â
