Golf Teams Honored at Lone Star Conference Banquet; Jameson Named Coach of the Year for Second Straight Season

ABILENE, Texas – The West Texas A&M men's and women's golf teams were honored on the All-Lone Star Conference Teams, announced Sunday evening at the Lone Star Conference Golf Championship Banquet in Abilene, Texas.
 
Four Lady Buffs were named to the all-conference teams, including first team honors junior Loukyee Songprasert, junior Jelina Fernando and junior Holly Winter. Lady Buffs senior Kaylin Milholland earned second team honors,  while Lady Buffs head coach Meredith Jameson, tabbed the Women's Golf Coach of the Year award for her second straight season, fourth of her career. Sarah Wongsmith from Texas A&M-Commerce earned Player of the Year honors with Anna Kittleson from MSU-Texas earning Freshman of the Year.
 
Freshman Eemeli Jarvinen earned his second team honors to represent the Buffs on the All-Conference Teams. Jake Doggett of MSU-Texas earned Player of the Year honors, while teammate Garrett Leek was named Freshman of the Year. MSU-Texas head coach Jeff Ray earned his first recognition of LSC Men's Golf Coach of the Year.
 
On the All-Academic Teams, junior Jelina Fernando and senior Brayden Cruth were awarded for their second consecutive season with Fernando being named Women's Golf Academic Player of the Year.
 
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30 grade point average and be at least a sophomore, both academically and athletically. The Academic Player of the Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league's sports information directors voting based on both academic and athletic achievement.
