Biography
Coach Jameson’s Take: Jelina is an intense competitor on the course and a driven scholar in the classroom. She understands her game well and uses that knowledge on the course to make smart decisions, which has been instrumental in her setting WT records during her three year as a Lady Buff. Jelina brings her best to practice and leads her teammates through an example of committing to the process and becoming 1% better each day.

2019-20: Fernando was named the LSC Academic Player of the Year for the second straight season, making her one of four women’s golfer to win the award back-to-back. She was also named Second Team All-LSC after finishing with the 11th best scoring average in program history, 76.57. She recorded a trio of Top 10 finishes highlighted by a seventh-place finish at the DII West Region Preview including a 2-under, 70, in the final round. She finished her four-year career with the third-best scoring average in program history, 76.12.

2018-19: Was named Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year along with earning 1stTeam All-Conference honors. Also named to WGCA All-American Scholar Team. Recorded the best Par 3 scoring in program history at 3.09. Helped the Lady Buffs finish tied for 10th at the NCAA Division II Championships shooting rounds of 79 and 85. Finished tied for 32ndat the NCAA DII Women’s West Regional hosted at the Amarillo Country Club after carding a 54-hole total of 215. Shot a 36-hole total of 145 at the Lone Star Conference Championships helping the Lady Buffs to their first-ever LSC title and break the conference record for lowest total team score. Recorded a 23rdplace finish at the WT Desert Invite days after winning the Mustang Intercollegiate with a 36-hole score of 143. Followed a third-place finish at the weather shortened Rattler Invitational up with an eighth-place finish at the El Cheapo Invitational after shooting rounds of 74 and 73. Finished in the Top-20 in all five fall tournaments including a. runner-up finish at the Otter Fall Invite with a 36-hole total of 147.

2017-18: Fired 69-69 to win the Lone Star Conference Championships, a WT record for 36 hole score at 4 under par. Recorded the third best WT single season scoring average at 75.07. Set WT records for single season best par 4 scoring average at 4.1935 and second best par 5 scoring average at 5.0588. Garnered recognition on the WGCA All-American Honorable Mention Team, WGCA All-American Scholar Team, LSC All-Conference First Team, LSC All-Academic Team. Honored as LSC Player of the Week. Every score this season counted in the team score, with six top-10 finishes and 7 rounds at or under par.

2016-17: As a freshman, Jelina represented WT in every tournament. She accrued seven top-10 finishes, including a T7 finish at the NCAA DII Women’s Super Regional Championship. Jelina was one of three Lady Buffs to place in the top 20 at the NCAA DII National Championship, finishing T19. Jelina earned second team All Lone Star Conference and WGCA Scholar All-American honors.
Central Sussex College: Fernando graduated from Sussex College in 2015 and has been a member of the England South Training Squad for the past two years and was the 2015 England South Region Stroke Play...At the Prince of Wales Challenge (U-21), she finished second on the par 74 course shooting a 77 and 74...She also finished second at the Midlands Falco Series Championship and achieved Top 25 finishes in both the English and Irish Girls Championships...She won her Junior State Championship for consecutive years and representing her Ladies State First team in the 2015 National Championships. Fernando is determined to achieve her dream of becoming a professional golfer.
Personal: Parents are Noel and Adrianne Fernando...Has two siblings...Plans on majoring in marketing at WT.
