CANYON, Texas – After a two hour lightning delay, the West Texas A&M women's soccer team came out on fire on their way to a 2-0 victory over UT-Permian Basin. The Lady Buffs used goals from
Khadidra Debesette and
Karyn Forbes to pick up their second win in as many matches. WT improves to 2-3 while UTPB falls to 0-5.
The Lady Buffs used early pressure to capitalize on a UTPB mistake. Debesette made a great effort to steal the ball a Falcon defender and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper in the 11
th minute
Courtney Dippel kept the Falcons off the board in the 25
th minute as she tapped a shot over the cross bar. WT outshot UTPB 13-5 in the first half with five of those shots finding the goal.
The Lady Buffs controlled most of the second half and scored an insurance goal in the 63
rd minute when Forbes got on the end of a cross from
Peyton Williams. Williams dribbled the length of the field and found Forbes near post who powered it past the goal keeper. WT kept pressing the goals as
Emily Krenek and
Ashlee Craigh both had shots saved in the last 15 minutes.
TURNING POINTKhadidra Debessette dispossessed a UTPB defender and slotted the ball past Ebony Campbell in the 11
th minute to open her scoring account for the Lady Buffs.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS- Forbes and Debesette lead the team with three shots. Forbes had a match-high 5 shots on goal.
