Late Goal Dooms the Lady Buffs Against Lubbock Christian, 2-1

CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M tied up Wednesday night's Lone Star Conference matchup with Lubbock Christian in the 85th minute before the Lady Chaps scored the game-winner with just over a minute to play to claim a 2-1 win at The Pitch in Canyon.
 
The first half began with WT applying early pressure, as Jezmin Castellanos Reyes tested the opposing goalkeeper in the opening minutes. Despite multiple attempts on goal, including shots by Michelle Velasco and Lauren Stokes, Emma Wright consistently denied scoring opportunities for the home team.
 
Lubbock Christian capitalized on their momentum, with Riley Espinoza finding the back of the net in the 22nd minute. Franciezca Blancaflor made several key saves, including a critical stop on an early penalty kick by Ella Spiller, keeping the match within reach for the Lady Buffs.
 
The half concluded with the Lady Buffs continuing to press offensively, but unable to break through, leaving the score at 1-0 in favor of Lubbock Christian at the half.
 
The second half began with the Lady Buffs pushing forward as Castellanos Reyes created multiple scoring opportunities early on. Despite their offensive efforts, including a series of attempts by Castellanos Reyes and Alicia Cohen, the Lady Buffs were kept at bay by Lubbock Christian's defense.
 
Blancaflor played a crucial role in maintaining momentum for the Lady Buffs, making several key saves against Lubbock Christian's offensive attempts. Her efforts helped keep the game competitive, and Sydney Martin capitalized on a chance in the 85th minute to level the score at 1-1.
 
However, Lubbock Christian quickly responded as Logan Holloway found the net with an assist from Spiller in the 89th minute. As the half concluded, the Lady Buffs trailed 2-1, unable to equalize before the final whistle.
 
Blancaflor made 13 saves, playing the full 90 minutes, and faced 22 shots, allowing only two goals. Martin scored one goal on two shots, both of which were on target. Castellanos Reyes took seven shots, with three of those being on goal. Velasco contributed with two shots, both of which were on target.
 
Wright recorded seven saves, allowing just one goal over 90 minutes, contributing significantly to the team's defensive effort. Holloway delivered a decisive performance by scoring the game-winning goal, converting both of her shots on goal. Spiller provided a crucial assist, adding to her shot tally with three attempts, all on target. Espinoza led the team in shots with seven and found the back of the net once, further strengthening the attack.
 
The Lady Buffs hit the road on Saturday as they travel to Dallas, Texas to take on the unbeaten #1 Patriots of Dallas Baptist with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. at Patriot Soccer Field. DBU clinched the LSC Championship on Wednesday afternoon with a dominant 11-0 win at Sul Ross State.
