CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M hit the road for the final two contests of the regular season beginning on Saturday afternoon as they take on Lone Star Conference Champion and top-ranked Dallas Baptist with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. at Patriot Soccer Field in Dallas.
 
LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN REWIND
The Lady Buffs tied up Wednesday night's battle with Lubbock Christian in the 85
th minute before the Lady Chaps scored the game-winner with just over a minute to play to hand West Texas A&M a 2-1 league loss at The Pitch in Canyon.
 
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS
The Patriots enter the weekend with a perfect 15-0 record, going 11-0 in LSC play as they clinched the LSC Championship on Wednesday afternoon with a dominant 11-0 win at Sul Ross State. The 15-straight victories is a new DBU program record. Seven different Patriots found the back of the net in the dominant performance in Alpine as DBU captured their sixth LSC regular season crown since joining the league in 2019.
 
McKenna Vela and Anne Louthan have each scored 10 goals so far this season for the Patriots. Vela has dished out seven assists for a team-best 27 points as the junior from Weatherford has registered 39 shots with 28 of them coming on goal with three game-winners.
 
DBU HEAD COACH MARCUS WOOD
Marcus Wood is in his fourth season at the helm of the Patriot women's soccer program, holding a career record of 449-50-40 during his 25
th seasons of collegiate soccer. In his first three seasons with the Patriots, Wood guided DBU to three consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Wood also led DBU to Lone Star Conference regular season titles in each of his first two years and hoisted the LSC Championship trophy in 2022 and 2023.
 
THE SERIES
DBU leads the all-time series against WT 14-3-1 with the series starting in 2001. The Patriots have won the previous nine meetings in the series and undefeated in the past 15. The Lady Buffs' last win in the series came in 2010 where WT defeated DBU 2-1 in Canyon. The Lady Buffs are 1-9 record on the road in the series and 0-6 in conference play against the Patriots.
 
WT HEAD COACH TURK OZTURK
Bulut "Turk" Ozturk was named the third head coach in the history of the Lady Buff Soccer program on December 19, 2024. Ozturk brings an impressive nine-season track record of collegiate coaching experience to WT.
 
Ozturk was most recently on the coaching staff at Iowa State University for the 2024 season as the Soccer Development Coordinator. In this role, he was involved in all aspects of assisting a power four program that competes in the Big XII conference. Some of coach Turk's major duties included: Game Day coaching, video analysis for team members, scouting reports, recruiting, travel coordination and leading training sessions for the team.
 
Before Iowa State, Ozturk served as the Head Coach at Michigan Tech University for four seasons. During his tenure, he led the Huskies to their first NCAA tournament appearance in nearly a decade in 2023. Under his guidance, Michigan Tech achieved remarkable success with 17 players earning GLIAC All-Conference Awards, one All-American, over 60 players named to the All-Academic Excellence Team, and eight to the All-Academic Team.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
The Lady Buffs were selected 10th in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll announced on August 27th. 
 
Dallas Baptist claimed 29 of the possible 45 first place votes for a total of 650 points to sit atop of the poll followed by Angelo State (13 first place, 634), Texas Woman's (one first place, 556), Midwestern State (511), St. Mary's (468), St. Edward's (435), Lubbock Christian (392), Oklahoma Christian (358), UT Tyler (347), West Texas A&M (284), Texas A&M International (one first place, 244), UT Dallas (168), UT Permian Basin (146), Eastern New Mexico (124) and Sul Ross State (one first place, 83).
 
Annie Rocha of St. Edward's was tabbed the league's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. DBU senior Parker Coe was named the Defensive Player of the Year while Amanda Farris of TWU claimed Goalkeeper of the Year accolades.
