Lady Buffs Set to Host Midwestern State and No. 5 Angelo State

GAME NOTES

CANYON, Texas -
The West Texas A&M women's soccer team will host a pair of matches this weekend. WT first welcomes Midwestern State on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 p.m. After playing the Pioneers, the Lady Buffs will host No. 5 Angelo State on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. Head coach Chad Webb enters the weekend with 49 career wins.

SCOUTING MIDWESTERN STATE
The Mustangs enter the week having won three of their last four matches, the only loss coming against nationally ranked Angelo State last Friday. MSU currently sits in fifth place in the LSC with a record of 2-2-1.
 
In their first meeting this season, the Lady Buffs struck first with an absolute rocket from Sydney Hickerson. But the Mustangs capitalized on their chances in the second scoring three goals in the comeback victory.
 
Destinee Williamson is the leading scorer for the Mustangs with four goals on 34 shots. aly Wade is second in scoring (three goals)and points (seven) behind Williamson. Goalkeeper Courtney Burnette leads the conference in shutouts per game (.545) and is second in goals against average (.705).
 
MIDWESTERN STATE VS. WEST TEXAS A&M - THE SERIES
+ The Mustangs leads the all-time series against WT, 19-16-2.
+ The Lady Buffs have won four of the last six matches played at The Pitch.
+ Neither team has won more than two consecutive matches since WT won five straight from 2000-03.
+ MSU defeated WT, 3-1, on Oct. 4 in Wichita Falls.
 
SCOUTING No. 5 ANGELO STATE
After dropping its LSC opener to Texas A&M-Commerce, 1-0, Angelo State has won four straight matches. The Rambelles defeated WT, 2-0, on Oct. 2 behind goals from Haley Mendel and Sierra Anderson.
 
Anderson leads the LSC in shots (47), shots per game (3.92) and is second in goals (seven). On the season, the Rambells have outscored their opponents, 28-6, averaging 2.33 goals a match.
 
Goalkeeper Shantel Wittke has been almost unbeatable in the net. She leads the conference in goals against average (.399), shutouts per game (.545) and save percentage (.907).
 
ANGELO STATE VS. WEST TEXAS A&M – THE SERIES
+ WT leads the all-time series against the Lions, 15-11-5.
+ The Buffs have lost the last three meetings by a combined score of 7-0.
+ WT haven't beaten the Rambelles at home since Sept. 28, 2012 .
 
SCOUTING THE LADY BUFFS
The Lady Buffs moved into second place in the Lone Star Conference standings after two impressive wins this past weekend. WT defeated Texas Woman's, 1-0, on Friday night and Texas A&M-Commerce, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon.
 
Karyn Forbes had a stellar weekend that included the game winner against TWU and assisted the game winner on Sunday. Khadidra Debesette scored her seventh of the season against TWU with Rachel Herring heading home the winner in the first half.
 
McKynzie Zick, playing in place of the injured Courtney Dippel, had an impressive weekend as well. She recorded her second shutout of the season and nearly got a third but TAMUC put one past her in the second half. Zick is now 3-0-0 on the season and 6-5-0 in her career. So far this season she owns a  0.333 goals against average and .938 save percentage.
 
The Lady Buffs have outscored their opponents, 12-4, in the first half but have been outscored, 13-5, in the second half.
 
LONE STAR IN THE POLLS
Angelo State is the lone LSC team ranked in the Oct. 13 NSCAA Top 25 poll. The Rambelles won their only match last weekend and stayed at No. 5 while Texas A&M-Commerce fell out of the poll after losing two its three matches last weekend.
 
NEXT UP
The Lady Buffs will make the return trip to Texas A&M-Commerce on Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. After playing the Lions, WT will face Texas Woman's on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.
