CANYON, Texas – The #8 Buffaloes of West Texas A&M hit the road for Lone Star Conference action on Saturday afternoon as they take on the Comets of UT Dallas with tipoff set for 3:00 p.m. at the UTD Activity Center in Richardson, Texas.
 
CAMERON REWIND
The then #13 Buffaloes finished off their homestand with another victory on Saturday afternoon as they claimed a 76-52 Lone Star Conference win over the Cameron Aggies at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. Brock Mishak finished with 12 points and collected six rebounds while adding four assists. James Parlow Jr. scored 16 points, converting six of his eight field-goal attempts. Brendan Ballard posted 13 rebounds and blocked three shots, contributing significantly on defense. Zach Brown added eight points, connecting on two 3-pointers and hitting both of his free-throw attempts.
 
SCOUTING THE COMETS
UT Dallas enters the weekend with an overall record of 0-8 following a 90-83 loss to Eastern New Mexico on Thursday night in their LSC opener. The Comets are 0-4 so far this season inside of the UTD Activity Center with non-conference losses to East Central (67-57), Southern Arkansas (100-79) and Adams State (87-86).
 
The Comets are making the transition to NCAA Division II following a successful time in NCAA Division III where they registered an overall mark of 444-268 with eight NCAA DIII Tournament Trips (2005, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2019, 2020, 2024) and five American Southwest Conference Championships.
 
Hudson Goellner leads the way offensively for the Comets as the freshman from Poetry, Texas has gone 38-of-90 (42.2%) from the floor including 3-of-11 (27.3%) from deep and 17-of-30 (56.7%) from the free throw line to average 13.7 points per game to go along with 54 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and five blocks.
 
UTD HEAD COACH JARED FLEMING 
Former Comet standout Jared Fleming became the third head coach men's basketball coach in UT Dallas history in July 2023 after serving the previous eight years as an assistant coach. 
 
In his first season at the helm, Fleming guided the Comets to an American Southwest Championship and the second round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship Tournament. The Comets went 19-10 overall and 12-4 in league play, tying for the regular season title. Fleming has won the ASC title as a player, assistant coach and head coach. 
 
The Comets went 15-10 as an NCAA Division II Independent in 2024-25, giving Fleming a career 34-20 record (.630). UTD ranked 16th in the nation in assists per game (17.5) and 21st in offensive rebounds per contest (13.93) in 2023-24. Fleming coached four All-Conference selections, including the ASC Defensive Player of the Year.

Saturday afternoon is the first all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Comets. 
 
WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN 
Tom Brown, now in his 12th season at the helm of the West Texas A&M men's basketball program, has built the Buffs into one of the elite NCAA Division II programs in the nation. He has guided WT to nine consecutive NCAA Tournaments including the Buffs first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2021. 
 
Brown was hired as the 17th head coach in program history on April 16, 2014. In the past 10 seasons, Coach Brown and his staff are 274-62 (.815) and an average of 27 wins a season with appearances in the Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four (2) and National Title game. During his time in Canyon, Brown is 293-75 (.796) overall and 155-43 (.783) in league action. 
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL 
Defending Regional Champion Dallas Baptist claimed 42 of the possible 51 first place votes for a total of 850 points to sit atop of the poll followed by St. Mary's (two first place, 724), Lubbock Christian (four first place, 720), St. Edward's (669) and West Texas A&M (two first place, 654) to round out the top five. 
 
Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico tied for sixth with 592 points followed by Midwestern State (558), UT Permian Basin (468), Texas A&M International (one first place, 350), Texas A&M-Kingsville (330), Cameron (301), Oklahoma Christian (266), UT Tyler (260), Western New Mexico (193), UT Dallas (188) and Sul Ross State (88). 
 
St. Mary's Damani Claxton was tabbed the league's Preseason Player of the Year. The Bronx, New York native averaged 17.1 points, 2.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game last season. He made 45 3-pointers and shot 80.4 percent from the free throw line. Claxton was named LSC Newcomer of the Year and earned first-team All-LSC honors. 
 
NABC DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL 
The Buffaloes jumped five spots to 8th in this week's edition of the National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) Division II Top-25 Poll announced on Tuesday afternoon. The South Central Region is represented by Lubbock Christian (4th), St. Mary's (7th), West Texas A&M (8th), St. Edward's (14th), Black Hills State (19th) and Eastern New Mexico (RV). 
 
2024-25 RECAP 
The 2024-25 campaign saw WT made the NCAA National Tournament for a ninth-consecutive season where three freshmen made the LSC All-Freshman team. The Buffs also posted a 3.48 GPA in the classroom, tops in the Lone Star Conference for a second consecutive year. WT was named a recipient of the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team Academic Excellence Award as Brock Mishak and Nicholas Jett were named to the NABC Honor Court.
