CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's basketball head coach
Tom Brown has announced the signing of Australian standout Ryder Cheesman for the 2026-27 campaign.
Â
"Ryder was impressive at the 2025 U20 Australian National Championship. He captained the Vic Navy Squad and averaged 18.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the tournament" said Brown "He is a complete player and a winner. Ryder will be a great addition next year at West Texas A&M University."
Â
The 6'4 guard was named one of the breakout stars at the 2025 U20 Australian National Championship, serving as the captain of the Victoria Navy squad while averaging 18.8 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists for the tournament. In that event, the standout point guard shot 46.7 percent from the field to lead his team to a championship.
Â
Cheesman has competed internationally in multiple basketball events since 2022, representing his home country at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup in 2024. He also has earned gold medals at both the U16 Asian Championship (2023) and U15 Oceana Championship (2022).
Â
"Ryder Cheesman is a proven winner. As a starting point guard, he led his teams to multiple titles in Victoria and consistently competed at the highest levels through national team selections. Ryder impacts winning, I have no doubt he will do that for West Texas A&M" said Darren Best of Victoria Basketball.
