NORMAN, OK – The No. 4 West Texas A&M Buff track and field team hold a 51 point lead after day one of the Lone Star Conference Championship with 88 points. The Buffs registered points across five events and qualified 10 athletes to final events tomorrow at the Mosier Indoor Track and Field Facility at Oklahoma University.Â

BROKEN RECORDS
The Buffs had three distance runners break the 5,000-meter Lone Star Conference Championship record after finishing 1-2-3 in the race.
William Amponsah led the pack coming in first 14 minutes, 13.9 seconds. Following Amponsah was
Harry Louradour (2
nd) in 14 minutes, 26.5 seconds and
Adrian Legarreta (3
rd) in 14 minutes, 31.3 seconds. Overall the Buffs had five out of the six top finishes with
Enrico Oddone (4
th) in 14 minutes, 49.1 seconds and
Jay Hall (6
th) in 14 minutes, 58.9 seconds. Amponsah, Louradour and Legarreta each broke the championship record set in 2021 by Buff alum, Ezekiel Kipchirchir.Â

The distance squad brought in 32 team points in the 5,000-meter race alone and swept the podium.Â

WINNING MEDALS
Hamdi Ali jumped to gold in the high jump at 2.13m, while teammate
Allen Henderson took silver tying his personal best mark of 2.09m.
Joseph Oreva jumped to gold in the long jump hitting a 7.35m mark.
Romet Vahter just fell short of the podium earning fourth with a jump of 6.96m.
Luke Holcombe threw to bronze in the weight throw at 17.25m.
Ethan Hollinshead and
Jon Tucker each brought in a combined four team points in the event.Â

The Buffs distance medley relay team ran to gold in 10 minutes, 15.3 seconds, just three seconds shy of breaking the LSC Championship record.
Louis Moreau (1200m),
Chance Martelli (400m),
Allen Henderson (800m) and
Harry Louradour (Mile) took the Buffs to the podium this time around.Â

FINALISTS
Troy Whyte and
Isaac Botsio claimed the top spots in the 60m hurdles and 60-meters, respectively. Whyte also qualified for the 400-meter race tomorrow. Joining Whyte in the 60m hurdle finals are teammates
David Richards and
Jefferson Jean.Â

Freshman
Jace Lynch continued to improve on his 60-meter mark running a personal best 6.83 in the prelims and qualifying for the finals tomorrow. Lynch is one of three freshmen to make the finals. Joining Lynch is sophomore
Jerry Jakpa who also ran a personal best 6.86.Â

Another freshman who made the finals is
Grant Sims in the 800-meter race. Sims will join the dynamic duo
Prince Mcabelo and
Aziz Mohammed in the event tomorrow. Â

Senior
Gerard Bryant sits in second place after day one of the heptathlon with 3,113 points right behind Angelo States' senior Elvis Kryukov (3,144pts). Bryant has an opportunity to overtake the lead with two more events left, the 60m hurdles and 1,000-meter race. Today, he took first in the high jump hitting a personal best 2.01m jump.Â
