TEXAS WOMAN'S
Texas Woman's (10-24, 8-16 LSC) comes to Canyon looking for their first win in April after back-to-back three-game sweeps to Texas A&M-Commerce and Cameron.
Paige Tamayo is hitting a team-high .356 for the Pioneers with 11 doubles and five home runs for 23 RBI for a slugging percentage of .613. The Fort Worth, Texas native has also recorded a team-high 11 multi-hit games including nine games with two hits. Tylia Sylestine is the only other TWU player hitting over .300 as the senior is 29-for-86 (.337) from the plate with eight doubles, four home runs and 12 RBI.
Bailey Turner is 7-14 in 24 appearances and 18 starts in the circle for the Pioneers with an ERA of 3.46 in 117 1/3 innings pitched. The junior has allowed 78 runs (58 earned) on 142 hits with 45 walks and team-high 67 home runs. Jordan Kisselburg has made 15 appearances and 11 starts where she is 3-8 with an ERA of 6.87 having allowed 55 runs (52 earned) on 64 hits in 53 innings.
The Pioneers are led by first year head coach Amber Barker after spending the previous two years at Albany State where she went 54-47. During her time with the Golden Rams, she led them to their first SIAC Championship and first NCAA Regional birth.
A LOOK INSIDE THE SERIES
The Lady Buffs lead the all-time series 27-23 as the teams will play for the first time in two years after last year's three-game series was cancelled due to weather. The Pioneers won the last meeting, 3-0, in the 2017 NCAA South Central Regional. Prior to that loss at Schaeffer Park, WT had won nine straight in the series dating back to the LSC Tournament in 2015.
STATS OF THE DAY
The Lady Buffs continue to lead the nation in home runs per game (1.95) and slugging percentage (.634). Entering this weekend's series against TWU, WT has hit 72 home runs with
Ruby Salzman connecting on a team-high 13.
Kylee Moore leads Division II softball in walks per game (1.08) as the senior slugger is one of the two players in the nation to average a walk per contest. Opposing teams have been reluctant to pitch to the Van, Texas native as she has walked a total of 23 times over the past nine games including a career-high five times against Eastern New Mexico.
MCBROOM DOING HER PART
With opposing teams electing to walk
Kylee Moore (see above), the Lady Buffs needed someone to step up and
Shanna McBroom has done just that. Over the past nine games, the junior is hitting .500 with a double and five home runs and 17 RBI for a 1.071 slugging percentage. She has also connected on her first two career grand slams as well.
CRUZIN' UP THE RECORD BOOK
With her nine home runs this season,
Brittany Cruz has 32 career home runs which is the seventh-most in program history, one shy of tying
Alyssa Lemos for sixth. The junior entered the Top 10 on March 29 with a grand slam in a 11-3 (5 innings) win over No. 6 Texas A&M-Kingsville.
KEEPING THE STREAK ALIVE
WT enters the week 18-6 in Lone Star Conference play, two wins short of reaching 20 for the eighth consecutive season. Since 2012, the Lady Buffs have won 20 or more league games in every season including a program-high 30 in 2016.
