CANYON, Texas – 
The #16 Lady Buffs continue their run in the Lone Star Conference Championship on Sunday afternoon with their 22nd appearance in the LSC Title Game as they take on the rival #22 Belles of Angelo State with tipoff set for 3:30 p.m. at the Comerica Center in Frisco.
 
#22 ANGELO STATE
Angelo State is guided by second year head coach Renae Shippy who was announced as the 11th head coach in program history back on April 24, 2017. She served the previous two seasons as ASU's top assistant. The Belles enter Championship Sunday with an overall record of 24-4 as they claimed a share of the Lone Star Conference Regular Season Title for the second straight season. The Belles are in their 10th LSC Title Game following a 108-103 thrilling win over Tarleton on Saturday night in Frisco.
 
LSC Defensive Player of the year Marquita Daniels leads the way offensively for the Belles as the senior guard has gone 180-of-409 (44%) from the floor including 44-of-149 (29.5%) from behind the arc to average 17.6 points per game while De'Anira Moore averages 14.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest.
 
WT HEAD COACH KRISTEN MATTIO
Kristen Mattio is now in her fourth season as the head coach of the Lady Buffs, registering an overall record of 110-22 (.833) with three NCAA Tournament appearances including a spot in the Regional Finals each of the three seasons and a South Central Regional Championship in 2016-17. Mattio became the third head coach in program history to reach 100 victories while becoming the second fastest to the milestone in her 122nd career game back on February 2nd in Lawton.

SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL RANKINGS (MAR. 6)
The #16 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M remained atop of the third edition of the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball South Central Regional Rankings announced on Wednesday afternoon West Texas A&M sits atop of the rankings followed by Lubbock Christian, Colorado Mesa, Angelo State, Tarleton, Westminster, Eastern New Mexico, Texas A&M-Commerce, Newman and St. Mary's.
 
WBCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL (MAR. 5)
The Lady Buffs jumped two spots to 16th in the newest edition of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Top-25 announced on Tuesday afternoon by the association's offices in Lilburn, Georgia.
 
Drury picked up all 24 of the possible first place votes to sit atop of the poll with a unanimous total of 600 points followed by UC San Diego (574), Fort Hays State (545), University of the Sciences (523), Alaska Anchorage (485), Ashland (446), Grand Valley State (442), Southwestern Oklahoma State (415), Northwest Nazarene (395) and Union (373) to round out the top ten. The South Central Region was represented by WT (16th), Colorado Mesa (20th), Angelo State (22nd) and Lubbock Christian (25th). 
 
BEST IN THE LONE STAR CONFERENCE
The Lady Buffs have registered an overall record of 397-83 in regular-season Lone Star Conference action since joining the league prior to the 1986-87 campaign for a winning percentage of 82.6%. WT has won 17 LSC Regular Season Championships during that span including 14 Tournament Titles.
 
WT IN THE LSC CHAMPIONSHIP
The Lady Buffs are in the Lone Star Conference Championship for the 26th straight campaign and the 31st overall time which is the most of any LSC institutions. WT is 55-16 all-time at the LSC Championship for a winning percentage of 77.5% which is also tops among the league, the Lady Buffs have made 22 appearances in the Title Game with 14 Championships since 1987. WT has claimed six of the 11 LSC Tournament Titles since the neutral site format was introduces in 2008.
 
WINNING TRADITION
The 2018-19 season marks the seventh-straight year of 20 or more wins for the Lady Buffs. WT won 30 or more games in 2013-14 and 2014-15 and have 30 wins in six seasons since 1980-81. The Lady Buffs have not had a losing season since 1980-81 and have won 20 or more games in 28 seasons during that span with a string of nine-straight from 1983-1992.
 
LONE STAR CONFERENCE POSTSEASON AWARDS
Lexy Hightower became the 11th Lady Buff in program history to become the league's Player of the Year as she joins Chon White, Jamie Simmons, Joni Unruh, Emily Brister, Celeste Stevenson, Brandi Green, Latraica Spencer, Natasha Taylor, Teresa Tinner and Vanessa Wells. Kristen Mattio was tabbed the league's Coach of the Year for the second straight season while becoming the third coach in program history to win the award multiple times joining Krista Gerlich and Bob Schneider.
 
Hightower and Tyesha Taylor were named to the All-LSC First Team while Deleyah Harris picked up Third Team honors, Megan Gamble was tabbed an Honorable Mention selection. Harris also earned All-Defensive accolades while Hightower was named to the All-Academic Team.
 
LADY BUFFS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
The Lady Buffs made their fifth straight and 24th overall appearance in the NCAA Division II Basketball Postseason in 2017-18 as they are 37-24 all-time in the NCAA Tournament with the 37 wins ranking sixth-most all-time in NCAA Division II and ranks fourth-most among active DII institutions. WT has claimed seven Regional Championships with two appearances in the National Finals since the 1986-87 campaign.
 
In the last five NCAA tournament appearances for WT, the Lady Buffs are 15-5 during the stretch with three South Central Regional Championships and an appearance in the 2014 Division II National Title Game.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The #16 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M didn't hold a lead until right before the half but a strong defensive performance and 16 points from sophomore Abby Spurgin lifted WT to their 22nd Lone Star Conference Title Game with a 58-44 victory over fifth-seeded Texas A&M-Commerce on Saturday night at the Comerica Center in Frisco.
 
The Lady Buffs were led offensively by Abby Spurgin who went 8-of-12 from the floor for 16 points followed by Lexy Hightower and Delaney Nix with 11 points each, Spurgin grabbed 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the tournament while Deleyah Harris had nine boards of her own.
 
Alexis Bryant went 5-of-13 from the field and 2-of-6 from the free throw line for the Lions to lead the way offensively with 12 points followed by Princess Davis with 11, Bryan grabbed six rebounds while Davis dished out five assists with three steals on the night.
 
 WT finished the game going 23-of-50 (46%) from the floor including 6-of-14 (42.9%) from behind the arc and 6-of-14 (42.9%) from the free throw line with 41 rebounds (12 offensive, 29 defensive), 16 assists, 20 turnovers, 10 blocks and seven steals.
 
The Lions went 15-of-52 (28.8%) from the field including 2-of-10 (20%) from deep and 12-of-20 (60%) from the charity stripe with 29 rebounds (11 offensive, 18 defensive), eight assists, 15 turnovers, four blocks and four steals in the loss.
