#6 Lady Buffs Battle UT Tyler in the South Central Regional Quarterfinals

CANYON, Texas – The #6 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M make their 30th appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament this weekend as they battle the seventh-seeded UT Tyler Patriots in the quarterfinal round with tipoff set for 2:30 p.m. at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Texas.
 
TEXAS WOMAN'S REWIND
The Lady Buffs battled until the final buzzer on Sunday afternoon as they fell to the top-ranked Texas Woman's Pioneers in the LLSC Championship Game, 54-46 at the Comerica Center. Randi Harding scored 18 points and added three rebounds, leading the offensive effort for the Buffs. Taytum Bell contributed significantly on defense with five steals. Henley West posted eight rebounds and blocked three shots, showcasing defensive presence. Karley Motschenbacher recorded six rebounds and added five points.
 
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
UT Tyler enters the NCAA Tournament with an overall record of 21-10 as they are the seventh seed in this weekend's event. The Patriots are making their fourth appearance in the NCAA South Central Regional Championships as they are 5-3 all-time in the event with a run to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight in 2022-23.
 
Last Saturday saw the Patriots shoot 40.7% (22-of-54) from the floor including 25% (4-of-16) from behind the arc in a 67-61 loss to the Lady Buffs in the LSC Semifinals. Hayley Cumming and Leila Davis led the way offensively for the Patriots, scoring 18 points each. Cumming went 7-of-14 from the floor and 2-of-5 from deep to go along with four assists, one block and a steal in her 37 minutes of action.
 
Davis, a Second Team All-LSC honoree, leads the way offensively for the Patriots as the freshman from Melbourne, Australia has gone 133-of-265 (50.2%) from the floor including 15-of-49 (30.6%) from behind the arc and 93-of-130 (71.5%) from the charity stripe to average 12.5 points per game to go along with 163 rebounds, 48 assists, 43 steals and 12 blocks. Davis has reached double-figures 17 times this season with a season-high 25 points coming against St. Edward's and Lubbock Christian.
 
UTT HEAD COACH REBECCA ALVIDREZ
Rebecca Alvidrez is now in her fifth season at the helm of the UT Tyler women's basketball program. She has guided the Patriots to four NCAA Tournament appearances including a South Central Regional Championship in 2022-23. Alvidrez spent the previous four seasons as the Associate Head Coach at Stephen F. Austin under former Lady Buff head coach Mark Kellogg.
 
THE SERIES
Friday night marks just the 11th all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Patriots in the series that dates back to 2020. WT leads the series 6-4, it is the third meetings of the season including the second in the past six days. The two teams have met four times during postseason action, three of them coming in the LSC Championships (2023, 2024, 2026). The only NCAA Tournament meeting came on March 14, 2025 in Denton during the regional quarterfinals, a 58-47 win by the Lady Buffs.
 
Last Saturday saw the Lady Buffs shoot 38% (19-of-50) from the floor in a game that saw 12 lead changes as WT claimed a 67-61 victory at the Comerica Center in Frisco. Kyla Kane scored 16 points, converting 8 of 10 free throws and grabbing six rebounds. Taylor Haggan led the scoring with 17 points, making six baskets and collecting seven rebounds. Claire Graham contributed with 10 rebounds, including a perfect 10 on the defensive glass. Kenadee Winfrey added two steals and scored two points.
 
WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock is now in his fifth season at the helm of the Lady Buff Basketball program. The Lady Buffs are making the program's 30th trip to the NCAA Division II Postseason this weekend. 
 
Prock reached the 300-career victory milestone on Thursday, December 4th in a 76-51 victory over Oklahoma Christian at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. Prock was introduced as West Texas A&M's head women's basketball coach on June 2, 2021. Prock is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico leading the Greyhounds to three NCAA Tournament appearances.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 301-49 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 86.3%. WT has averaged 1,035 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.
 
LONE STAR CONFERENCE AWARDS
West Texas A&M had five different student-athletes recognized by the Lone Star Conference on Wednesday evening during the league's annual postseason awards banquet held in Frisco, Texas prior to the start of the LSC Championships.
 
Kyla Kane was named to the All-LSC First Team while Taylor Haggan and Randi Harding earned Second Team accolades. Karley Motschenbacher was selected to the Third Team along with the All-Defensive Team. Henley West picked up Honorable Mention All-LSC honors along with a spot on the All-Freshman Team. 
 
LSC ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
Junior post Taylor Haggan was honored for her efforts in the classroom, being named to the 2026 Lone Star Conference Women's Basketball All-Academic Team announced on Wednesday night.
 
Haggan holds a 3.94 GPA in General Business. The Parker, Texas product has started all 29 games this season for the Lady Buffs, going 127-of-227 (55.9%) from the floor to average 10.3 points per game with 177 rebounds, 32 assists, 10 blocks and 28 steals.
 
LADY BUFFS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
West Texas A&M is making their 30th appearance in the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championship. WT is 42-28 all-time in the NCAA Tournament with the 43 wins ranking fifth all-time in NCAA Division II and fourth among active Division II schools. 
 
The Lady Buffs have claimed eight Regional Championships with two appearances in the National Finals since the 1986-87 campaign. In the last nine NCAA tournament appearances for WT, the Lady Buffs are 20-9 during the stretch with four South Central Regional Championships and an appearance in the 2014 Division II National Title Game.
