Azia Himeur Promoted to Lady Buff Basketball Assistant Coach

CANYON, TEXAS – West Texas A&M women's basketball head coach Josh Prock has announced the promotion of Azia Himeur to assistant coach of the Lady Buffs.

"We are all very excited to add Azia Himeur to our coaching staff. As a former student-athlete, Azia brings a lot of value to the table. She was an invaluable member of our Elite Eight team, Azia is someone who knows what it truly looks like to understand and play her role. She was definitely a leader for us on and off the court during her playing career at WT" said Prock "One of the more impressive things I saw in her as a player was her willingness to improve on every aspect of her game. She became one of the better defensive players for us and will be able to use these experiences as she helps mentor and coach our current team."

Himeur spent the 2025-26 campaign on the sidelines for the Lady Buffs as the program's Director of Creative Content and Video Coordinator. WT made the program's 30th appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament with an overall record of 28-5.

"Returning to WT as an assistant coach is a full-circle moment for me" said Himeur "This program played a huge role in my development as both a player and a person during my years here, and I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to come back and give back to a place that means so much to me. I'm excited to get to work and help continue the tradition of success at WT."

The Albuquerque product played in 84 games with 44 starts during her career in Maroon & White, winning the South Central Regional Championship in 2021-22. She shot 34.9% from the floor including 33.5% from behind the arc and 87.5% from the free throw line to average 6.3 points per game to go along with 124 rebounds, 63 assists, four blocks and 55 steals.

"This past season she was a valuable member of our coaching staff by relating to our players so well. Azia will be someone they can talk to and bounce ideas off of" added Prock "Azia will be great on the recruiting trail as well because she has a great personality and truly understands what it takes to be a Lady Buff."

Himeur registered a stellar prep career at Cibola High School in Albuquerque where she was an All-State shooting guard for the Cougars under head coach Lori Mabrey. Azia earned Second Team All-Metro honors as well as being named All-District. She averaged 15 points per game for the Cougars as a senior while scoring 14 points per game as a junior. She also excelled in the classroom as a member of the National Honor Society and the French National Honor Society.

She was the offensive catalyst for a Cibola program that finished 19-8 in 2019-20, just a few seasons removed from finishing as the 6A State Runner-Up in 2017-18. She was named a Second Team All-Metro selection in 2019-20 as well as a First Team All-District selection after shooting 45% from three-point range and 51% from the field.
