Prock and Staff Add Mylasia Smith for the 2026-27 Campaign

CANYON, TEXAS – West Texas A&M women's basketball head coach Josh Prock has announced the addition of Mylasia Smith for the 2026-27 campaign.

"Mylasia plays the game the right way because of the amount of energy she plays with every possession especially on the defensive end. She does a great job of rebounding from her position and she excels in transition by doing great job of finishing on the break" said Prock "Mylasia comes from a very strong junior college program in Trinity Valley and played for a very successful high school program in DeSoto High School. She brings a winning mentality. When you describe the kind of young lady you want to be Lady Buff on and off the court Mylasia fits that profile along with being a tremendous student."

Smith comes to Canyon following one season at Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. She saw time in 27 games with 20 starts for the Cardinals, averaging 9.7 points per game as she went 97-of-190 (51.1%) from the floor with 119 rebounds, 44 assists, four steals and 37 steals. She was an Honorable Mention All-Conference selection as the Cardinals went 31-4 to win the Region XIV Tournament and advance to the NJCAA National Semifinals.

The DeSoto, Texas product started her collegiate career at Tarleton State where she played in eight games as a true freshman for the Texans. She made her collegiate debut at Texas (Nov. 20) and scored a season-best seven points against Texas State (Dec. 4).

"Malaysia holds characteristics of a winner. She's going to make the next winning play whether that's a rebound, a defensive stop, a basket, a charge or whatever it is that is needed to put her team in the best position to win the game. She's a leader" said Trinity Valley CC head coach Precious Ivy "She's a hard worker and resilient. She has a high motor and never stops. She's just a young lady that you want on your team and she's going to make others around her better. She's going to make them work harder and she's going to lead them in the right direction."

Smith was a two-time Class 6A State Champion during her prep career at DeSoto High School where she was the District 11-6A Co-Defensive Most Valuable Player and a First Team All-District selection. Mylasia is the daughter of Frankie and Toni Smith and she has six siblings: Frankie, Kolbi, Ceira, Morgan, Chanel and Christian. She is expected to major in Animal Science with an emphasis in Pre-Veterinary Medicine.
