CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Lady Buff Basketball head coach
Josh Prock has announced the addition of Texas Tech transfer Julie Nekolná for the 2026-27 campaign.
"It is with a tremendous amount of enthusiasm that we are announcing the signing of Julie Nekolná. Julie is a very talented versatile post player that has played a very high level of basketball at her previous two schools" said Prock "Julie has a very good feel for the game because she does a great job of taking what the defense gives her and attacks the plays off that. She is a young lady that has a lot of speed and athleticism that will fit in well with what we do here at WT."
The 6'3 forward comes to Canyon following one season at Texas Tech University. Nekolná saw time in nine games for the Lady Raiders in 2025-26, advancing to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament under former Lady Buff head coach Krista Gerlich. Julie went 3-of-7 from the floor to go along with six rebounds, two assists, one blocks and two steals as she scored a season-best four points with a block and an assist against Jacksonville on December 18
th.
Nekolná started her collegiate career at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama where she was an NJCAA Division I First Team All-American as well as the Alabama Community College Conference Player of the Year in 2024-25 as the Bucs went 31-5 with a run to the program's first NJCAA DI National Title Game. Julie totaled 43 double-figure scoring games, 10 double-digit rebound games and nine double-doubles during two seasons at SSCC.

The Prague, Czech Republic native graduated from Holtville High School in Alabama, where she spent eight months as a foreign exchange student. She was an ASWA Class 5A First Team All-State selection and a finalist for the Class 5A Player of the Year, averaging 21.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.
Julie is the daughter of Michal and Vlasta Nekolná and she has one sibling, Adam. She is expected to major in Nursing at West Texas A&M.
