CANYON, TEXAS – West Texas A&M Athletics head women's basketball coach has announced the addition of New Mexico Junior College transfer Zarai Lewis for the 2026-27 campaign.
"We are very grateful Zarai Lewis has decided to be a Lady Buff! Zarai is a long, athletic wing who shoots with range from the 3-point line. She is a very good defender and is capable of guarding multiple positions as well. Zarai also does a good job of rebounding for her position as well" said Prock "She is a very mentally tough young lady which allows her to get through many different situations on the court. As we were looking to add depth to our back court we were trying to find young ladies that will fit our culture and someone who is selfless young lady, Zarai fits both of those traits. She is a tremendous student and a young lady who has tremendous character and will fit in very well here at WT."
The Clovis, New Mexico native helped the Thunderbirds reach the NJCAA National Title Game with an overall record of 27-7. Lewis averaged 8.2 points per game while shooting 34.2% from behind the arc to earn All-Conference honors while also being named to the NJCAA National All-Tournament Team.
Lewis was a three-time All-District selection under head coach Jeff Reed at Clovis High School where she scored over 1,000 career points to earn a spot on the NMHSCA All-Star Team while also playing in the Golden Spread All-Star Game.
"I'm really excited for Zarai to sign with one of the top programs in the country. She fits the culture at WT as they are getting a great teammate, an excellent student and a proven winner" said NMJC head coach Austin Mefford "Besides being a great person, her combination of experience, size and versatility will help her be a valuable player on the court in upcoming season. I look forward to seeing how she continues to grow under Coach Prock's leadership.
Zarai is the daughter of Carlton and Sarah Lewis and she has three siblings: Darrell, Taevyn and Langdon. She is expected to major in Health Science at West Texas A&M.
