WT Basketball Adds Local Standout Devaeh Johnson

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M women's basketball head coach Josh Prock has announced the addition of Tascosa High School standout Devaeh Johnson for the 2026-27 campaign.

"We are very excited to add another Panhandle standout Devaeh Johnson to our program. She will give us a great versatility in how we are able to play especially with her defensive mindset" said Prock "Her ability to guard multiple positions will be extremely valuable to us. On the offensive end, she has the complete game, she is able to score at all three levels of the court."

The 5'9" forward recently completed her senior season at Tascosa High School, leading the Rebels to the 5A Division I Regional Championship game with an overall record of 32-4. Johnson was named the District Offensive Player of the Year while earning All-State accolades. She was selected for the TABC All-Star Game as well as the Golden Spread All-Star Game.

"Devaeh also represents everything we are looking for in a Lady Buff Basketball Player in the classroom and outside the school" added Prock "She was very blessed to be coached in high school by two outstanding high school coaches in Zac Tabor and Chris Sumrall, which both did a great job in preparing her for the next level."

Devaeh is the daughter of Crystal and Maurice Burks and she has three siblings: Brayden, Braylee, and Ta'leigha. She is expected to major in Biology at West Texas A&M.

"We cannot be more excited for Devaeh choosing to stay close to home and sign with WT. She is one of Tascosa's most decorated players of all time with a lot of big game experience." said Tascosa High School head coach Zac Tabor "WT is getting an outstanding player who will be able to play multiple positions and thrive in whatever role helps the team win. With her willingness to work hard and put the team first she will flourish under Coach Prock's leadership."
