#4 West Texas A&M Set to Face Cameron in LSC Quarterfinals

CANYON, Texas – No. 4 and top-seeded West Texas A&M faces off against eighth-seed Cameron on Thursday, March 7, in the quarterfinals of the Lone Star Conference Tournament at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Texas. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. with Kent Johnson and Lucas Kinsey on the call at Lonestar 98.7.
 
A LOOK BACK AT EASTERN NEW MEXICO
Qua Grant scorched Eastern New Mexico for a career-high 29 points as No. 4 West Texas A&M finished the regular season with a 92-79 win over the Greyhounds on Tuesday night at the First United Bank Center as part of the ESPN3 Division II Showcase. The Buffs are now 28-3 overall and 17-1 in Lone Star Conference play breaking the program record for most wins in a regular season.
 
WT shot 33-of-69 (47.8%) from the floor, 6-of-21 (28.6%) from three-point range and 20-of-28 (71.4%) from the charity stripe with 37 rebounds with 12 assists, 10 steals and two blocks. Grant scored over 20 points for the second consecutive game finishing with 29 points going a career-best 11-of-18 from the floor while pulling down eight rebounds. 
 
A LOOK AT CAMERON
Cameron finished the regular season 9-19 overall and 5-13 in league play to earn the No. 8 eighth seed. The Aggies have wins over four teams ranked in the second edition of the NCAA Division II South Central Region rankings including a road win over Angelo State. 
 
Tyus Momoh is the top offensive option for the Aggies with 13.5 points and 4.5 assists per contests. The redshirt senior scored in double figures in 22 of his 28 appearances including a season-high 27 against WT on Feb. 2. 
 
Zach Dumas is the second leading scorer for CU with 13.0 points per game while shooting 38.5 percent from the floor, 38.9 percent from three-point range and 78.8 percent from the free throw line. At the beginning of the season, the Huffman, Texas product made a living at the free throw with 10 or more attempts in four of the first seven games but has only accomplished the feat once since. 
 
Jalen Nichols is the leading rebounder for CU with 6.0 rebounds per contest. The redshirt junior has recorded at least 10 rebounds in four games including a pair of 12 rebound performances against WT and MSU Texas.  
 
Andrew Brown is in his third season as the CU head coach after being named the program's 12th head coach on April 1, 2016. During his first season, he led the Aggies to the LSC Tournament where they advanced to the semifinals. Prior to CU, he won over 100 games at Northwestern Oklahoma State where he led the Rangers from 2007-15.
 
LAST TIME VS. CAMERON
The Buffs defeated CU 83-70 on Feb. 2 to win their fifth-straight in Lawton, Okla. Five players reached double digits including a team-high 22 points from Qua Grant.
 
WT finished the contest 27-of-58 (46.6%) from the floor, 13-of-33 (39.4%) from beyond the arc and 16-of-25 (64.0%) from the free throw line with 38 rebounds, 15 assists, eight blocks and four steals. Gach Gach had one of his best all-around performances with eight points and 12 rebounds while tying a career-high with four blocks.
 
INSIDE THE SERIES
WT leads the all-time series 36-16 including six straight dating back to 2016. Thursday's contest will be their sixth all-time meeting on a neutral site with the Buffs holding a 4-1 advantage.
 
The Buffs have won six straight meetings including sweeping the season series from the Aggies for the third consecutive year. 
 
STATISTICALLY SPEAKING
West Texas A&M ranks in the Top-10 nationally in win percentage (4th), free throw attempts (4th), three-point attempts (3rd) and turnover margin (6th). 
 
WT is 12-1 in neutral site games over the past two seasons including a perfect 5-0 in 2018-19. Four of the five victories this season have been decided by 10 points or less. 
 
Qua Grant has scored 20 or more points six times this season including in four of his last six contests. His 29-point performance against ENMU in the regular season finale was the most by a freshman since David Chavlovich scored 33 against Harding on November 28, 2014. With a 20-point performance against Cameron on Thursday, the Waxahachie, Texas product would become the first freshman to score at least 20 points in three straight games under Tom Brown.
 
Ryan Quaid enters the LSC tournament two points shy of becoming the second member of the 1,600 points club. The senior, who has appeared in 133 games, has scored 1,598 points during his four-year including 497 this season. He is also 52 rebounds short of becoming the first Buff to record 1,000 career rebounds. 
 
Joel Murray's 56 steals are the most by a freshman in program history and ninth-most in a single season in program history. With three more steals, the Rowlett, Texas product would become the sixth player to record 60 or more steals in a single season. 
 
Gach Gach has enjoyed playing against the Aggies during his two-year career including a career-high 31-point performance earlier this season. He has averaged 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest while shooting 50.0 percent from the floor, (22-44), 48.6 percent from three-point range (18-37) and 93.3 percent from the free throw line (14-15). 
 
WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN
Fifth-year head coach Tom Brown is now the fifth-winningest coach in program history following their win over UT Permian Basin on Feb. 9 at the First United Bank Center. He also ranks second in win percentage (76.4%) as he has guided the Buffs to four consecutive seasons with 20-plus wins. He is also the only coach in WT history to lead the team to a pair of 20 game home win streaks. 
 
THIRD TIME IS THE CHARM
For the third consecutive week, West Texas A&M freshman Qua Grant was named the Lone Star Conference Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week following his career-best performance against Eastern New Mexico on Feb. 26 on the ESPN3 Division II Showcase. 
 
The freshman was sensational in Tuesday's game against the Greyhounds scoring a career-high 29 points going a career-best 11-of-18 from the floor, 2-of-6 from three-point range and 5-of-8 from the free throw line while pulling down eight rebounds with four steals. The Waxahachie, Texas native has now scored at least 20 points in consecutive for the second time during his career. 
 
A LOOK AT THE RANKINGS
The Buffs remained fourth in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Top-25 released on Tuesday afternoon behind Northwest Missouri State, Indiana (Pa.) and Nova Southeastern.
 
They also moved into first in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Rankings after they regular season finale victory over Eastern New Mexico.
