CANYON, Texas – The Buffs of West Texas A&M open up the postseason on Thursday afternoon as they travel to Frisco, Texas for the 2026 Lone Star Conference Championships, battling the rival #11 Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds in the quarterfinal round with tipoff set for 2:30 p.m. at the Comerica Center.
 
UT PERMIAN BASIN REWIND
The Buffs closed out the regular season on a high note on Saturday afternoon as they picked up a 76-65 Lone Star Conference victory over the Falcons of UT Permian Basin on Senior Day in Canyon. Fontaine Williams led the scoring for the Buffs with 21 points, including two 3-pointers and five successful free throws. Brock Mishak added 17 points, converting six of 14 field goal attempts and contributing two assists.
 
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
The #11 Greyhounds enter the week with an overall record of 24-4 as they finished league play with a record of 17-3. Eastern New Mexico is making the program's 26th appearance in the LSC Championships as they are 11-23 (.324) in the event with two LSC Tournament Titles (1993, 2024).
 
Last weekend saw the Hounds close the regular season with home victories over UT Permian Basin (101-75) and Angelo State (79-77). Saturday afternoon's win over the Rams saw ENMU shoot 50.9% (28-of-55) from the floor including 86.4% (19-of-22) from the free throw line as the Hounds outscored ASU 44-36 in the paint. Jose Murillo led the way offensively, going 10-of-13 from the field and 9-of-11 from the stripe for a game-high 29 points with four boards and two assists.
 
Murillo, a First Team All-LSC honoree, leads the way offensively for the Greyhound as the senior forward from Chihuahua, Mexico has gone 168-of-256 (65.6%) from the floor including 110-of-181 (60.8%) from the free throw line to average 16.5 points per game to go along with 230 rebounds, 46 assists, 18 steals and 52 blocks. Murillo has reached double-figures 25 times this season with 12 double-doubles.
 
ENMU HEAD COACH DAVEN VÕ
Daven Võ is in his second season leading the Eastern New Mexico men's basketball program. Võ led the Greyhounds to an overall record of 18-11 and a trip to the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Championships in Frisco last season.
 
Võ came to Portales following one season as the Associate Head Coach at UC Colorado Springs. He brought more than 15 years of coaching experience to the Land of Enchantment and is no stranger to ENMU. He spent three years in Portales as an assistant coach from 2020-23.
 
THE SERIES
Thursday afternoon marks the 121st all-time meeting in the rivalry series between the Buffs and Greyhounds. WT is 98-22 in the series that dates back to 1935 as the Greyhounds snapped a 16-game losing streak to WT earlier this season with a pair of regular season wins. Thursday is the fourth meeting between the two rivals in the LSC Championships (2012, 2018, 2023) with the Buffs winning all three.
 
The last meeting saw the Greyhounds outscore the Buffs 53-43 in the second half on the way to a 87-76 victory back on February 10th in Canyon. WT shot 38.7% (24-of-62) from the floor including 32.1% (9-of-28) from behind the arc, the Hounds outscored the Buffs 44-26 in the paint. Brock Mishak went 6-of-11 from the field and 4-of-7 from deep to lead the Buffs with 22 points, grabbing four rebounds with one assist, one block and a steal.
 
WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN
Tom Brown, now in his 12th season at the helm of the West Texas A&M men's basketball program, has built the Buffs into one of the elite NCAA Division II programs in the nation.  He has guided WT to nine consecutive NCAA Tournaments including the Buffs first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2021. Brown reached the 300-win plateau with an 87-68 victory at Cameron on February 5, 2026.
 
Brown was hired as the 17th head coach in program history on April 16, 2014. In the past 10 seasons, Coach Brown and his staff are 285-72 (.798) and an average of 27 wins a season with appearances in the Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four (2) and National Title game. During his time in Canyon, Brown is 305-85 (.782) overall and 166-51 (.764) in league action. 
 
LIVE COVERAGE 
The LSC and FloSports reached a historic agreement in August of 2024 for the largest streaming rights deal in NCAA Division II history. NCAA SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONAL RANKINGS
The Buffaloes have been slotted ninth in the second ranked edition of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball South Central Regional Rankings announced on Wednesday afternoon.
 
Lubbock Christian remained atop of the South Central Regional rankings followed by DBU, Eastern New Mexico, Western New Mexico, St. Edward's, Black Hills State, St. Mary's, Colorado Mesa, West Texas A&M and CSU Pueblo.
 
This week's rankings are the second and final numerical list released by the NCAA. The 2026 Division II national tournament bracket will be announced Sunday, March 8 via NCAA.com online selection show beginning at 10:00 p.m. CT.
 
The South Central Regional Championships will take place on March 14-17 followed by the NCAA Division II Elite Eight beginning on March 25 at the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with the NCAD DII National Championship Game played on April 5 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
 
LSC POSTSEASON AWARDS 
West Texas A&M had three different student-athletes recognized by the Lone Star Conference on Wednesday evening during the league's annual postseason awards banquet held in Frisco, Texas prior to the start of the LSC Championships.
 
Fontaine Williams was selected to the All-LSC First Team while Brock Mishak was named to the Second Team. Zach Brown was honored for his efforts on the court as a member of the All-Freshman squad. Mishak was also recognized for his work in the classroom as the junior from Fort Collins, Colorado was named to the LSC All-Academic squad.

THE BUFFS IN THE LSC CHAMPIONSHIP
West Texas A&M is making their 17th consecutive and 34th overall appearance in the Lone Star Conference Championships this weekend in Frisco. The Buffs are 51-21 (.708) in the event to hold the most games played (73), victories (51) and best winning percentage (70.8%) in conference history. WT had made 17 appearances in the Championship game with a league-leading 13 LSC Tournament Titles.
