Now in his 17th year at West Texas A&M, Kent Johnson serves as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Event Operations, charged with overseeing WT's athletic facilities (including Bain-Schaeffer Buffalo Stadium, Buffalo Sports Park, the First United Bank Center and the WT Fieldhouse) as well as all home athletic events.

Johnson provides day-to-day administration and operational aspects for WT's football and men’s golf program, while managing home game-day operations for each of WT’s 16 intercollegiate programs. Johnson handles play-by-play duties for men’s basketball broadcasts while also being on-air with football and women’s basketball webstreams. In addition, he is involved in various administrative and budgetary aspects for WT Athletics.

Prior to moving to this position, he spent three years coordinating WT Athletics' media relations and publicity efforts.

Johnson has 34 years of NCAA Division I and II intercollegiate athletics experience. He previously was Assistant AD for Media Relations at Indiana State from 1999-2003. From 1989-98 he served as Associate SID at Texas Christian University, with earlier stints as assistant SID at both Tulane (1987-88) and Southern Methodist (1985-86).

Prior to joining the WT athletics staff, the Fort Worth native served in a media relations role with Andretti Green Racing from 2004-2007, a time that included two IndyCar Series Championships as well as a 2005 Indianapolis 500 victory. He spent 2003 as Director of Media Relations for the Indy Racing League. In 1998-99, Johnson served as Director of Media Relations for Tyler Jet Motorsports’ NASCAR Winston Cup program.

Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio/TV from West Texas State in 1984.  He and his wife, Cary, have two sons, Alex and Mitchell.
