CANYON, Texas – The Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M hit the road for the first time in Lone Star Conference play with a trip to No. 1 Angelo State on Feb. 23-23 at Mayer Field.

WT opened LSC play with a three-game series sweep of Western New Mexico last week at Schaeffer Park where they hit 10 home runs breaking the Division II single game home run record.

ANGELO STATE
The Rambelles enter the second weekend of LSC play 14-2 overall and 3-0 in league play having won 10 of their last 11 games including splitting a doubleheader against St. Mary's on Wednesday night.  Travis Scott's team currently leads the conference in batting average, hits, runs scored and runs batted in.

Junior Courtney Barnhill was named the LSC and NFCA National Player of the Week after hitting close to .900 in their series against Eastern New Mexico last week. On the season, Barnhill is hitting .479 with seven doubles and five home runs for 27 RBIs with 45 total bases for a slugging percentage of .938. Mykayla Stroud has been equally impressive hitting .417 with two doubles, a triple and four home runs for 18 RBIs.

LSC Preseason Player of the Year Teagan Kirk is also swinging the bat well through 14 starts this season with a .420 average with a team-high six doubles and three home runs for 15 RBIs. In total, the Rambelles have eight players with 10 or more RBIs.

Makayla Corbin is a perfect 6-0 in the circle for the Rambelles having allowed 19 runs (17 earned) on 41 hits with 26 strikeouts and walks in 45 innings of work. Meagan Hill suffered her first loss of the season on Wednesday against the Rattlers allowing two runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. On the season, the sophomore has team-best 2.31 ERA allowing 11 runs (11 earned) on 36 hits with 28 strikeouts and 13 walks in 33 1/3 innings.

A LOOK INSIDE THE SERIES
The Lady Buffs are 27-32 all-time against the Rambelles including 9-18 in games played in San Angelo. Since winning five straight games during the 2016 season, WT is 3-9 against ASU with two of those three wins coming at Schaeffer Park last season.

STAT(S) OF THE DAY
In Saturday's 21-4 win over WNMU, WT became the third team in NCAA Softball history to hit 10 home runs in a single game and first this decade. Ruby Salzman, Miranda Grotenhuis, Kylee Moore and Kourtney Coveney all homered twice as the Lady Buffs joined BYU and UTSA as the only NCAA softball teams to hit 10 home runs in a game.

Shayne Starkey hit three of her team-high four triples this weekend including two in the series finale. Through 12 games, she has already tied her career-high from last season. The senior's 12 career triples are the fourth-most in program history.

With four home runs this weekend, Moore now has 54 for her career, two short of passing WTAMU Hall of Champion inductee Kim LeComte. The Van, Texas native needs six more home runs to become third Lady Buff in program history to hit 60 career home runs. She has been deadly with two outs where she has driven in nine of her team-high 20 RBIs.

Freshman pitcher Kyra Lair has started in seven games with eight appearances where she is 5-0 with an ERA of 4.20. She has struck out three or more batters five times including a career-high six against WNMU where she threw 103 pitches.

Head coach Candace Abrams earned he 250th career win this past weekend in the final game of the three-game sweep. The second-year head coach now has a record of 250-82-1.

Through 12 games, Alyx Cordell has driven in 10 runs (nine short of her career-high) including her first career grand slam against Lubbock Christian. Much of that success could be contributed to her hitting .455 (5/11) with runners in scoring position.
