In the WT Open Twilight, the Buffs and Lady Buffs combined for six provisional times/marks while all teams competing combined to break 11 facility records at the WTAMU Track & Field Complex.
Starting things out in women's field events was junior
Libby Strickland who bumped up her provisional slightly in the high jump competition, clearing 1.70m, finishing third overall. Then on the horizontal side, sophomore
Malika Ouedraogo would win the triple jump title with a mark of 12.34m while teammate
Marion Gatignol joined her in the provisional ranks, placing fourth with an 11.83m jump.
Junior
Zach Weatherly had a strong day in the field for the men as he grabbed second place finishes in both the shot put and hammer throw competitions. He followed up by placing third in discus, right behind fellow teammate freshman
Duke Kicinski. Senior
Dustin Dickson and freshman
Brandon Leitch then topped the men's pole vault and javelin competitions, respectively.
First off on the track Saturday for the Lady Buffs was the 4x100m relay. The team of
Jasmine Pitts,
Bri Leeper, Strickland, and
Shanice Cameron crossed the line in second with a time of 45.91. That time increases the Lady Buffs' provisional time and currently ranks fifth in the nation. Also with an increased provisional time and an event win was junior
Alba Casanovas. She topped the 400m hurdles competition with a time of 1:00.68.
Highlighting track events for the Buffs was senior
Arnau Erta in the 110m hurdles, already an All-American in the event in 2014. He improved his provisional time on Saturday to 14.10, finishing second overall. He now ranks seventh in the country in the event. Next up in the 400m hurdles, junior
