SAN ANGELO, Texas – The West Texas A&M women's soccer team allowed three goals in the second half in its 3-1 loss to Midwestern State on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Buffs were unable to capitalize on Syndey Hickerson's first half goal in their second consecutive loss in Lone Star Conference play. The loss drops the Lady Buffs record to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in LSC play.
The Lady Buffs opened the match with intensity and pushed the pace from the opening whistle.
Rachel Herring nearly gave WT the lead in the 24
th minute when she was denied by the cross bar not once but twice. The Lady Buffs didn't have to wait much longer to open the scoring when Hickerson latched onto a through ball from
Khadidra Debesette on the left side of the box and scored in the 37
th minute. Herring lead the Lady Buffs with four shots in a half that held a 9-5 advantage in shots.
WT struggled to keep up the intensity in the final 45 minutes as the Mustangs found the net three times.
Nicole Coetzer tied the match in the 56
th minute while Aly Wade recorded the game winner in the 71
st minute. Morgan Hannon added a brace in the 83
rd minute. The Mustangs outshot the Lady Buffs, 13-4, in the second half with seven shots on goal.
