CANYON, Texas – The Buffs of West Texas A&M close out their road trip on Saturday afternoon as they take on the Oklahoma Christian Eagles with tipoff set for 3:00 p.m. in Edmond at the Payne Athletic Center.
 
CAMERON REWIND
West Texas A&M got back to their winning ways on Thursday night as five different Buffs reached double-figures in an 87-67 Lone Star Conference road victory over the Cameron Aggies in Lawton, Oklahoma. The victory marked the 300thcareer win for WT head coach Tom Brown. Fontaine Williams Jr. led the team with 22 points, converting 9 of 10 free throws. Zach Brown added 18 points and collected seven rebounds.
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
The Eagles enter Saturday with an overall record of 9-10 with a 4-9 mark in Lone Star Conference action as they look to snap a four-game losing streak. OC is 6-4 so far this season inside of the Payne Athletic Center with home wins over Randall, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Southwestern Christian, Midwestern State, Oklahoma Panhandle State and Angelo State.
 
Thursday night saw the Eagles trail Eastern New Mexico by 12 points at the break before ENMU pulled away for an 87-76 victory. OC shot 45.5% (25-of-55) from the floor including 47.1% (8-of-17) from behind the arc but the Hounds dominated inside as they outscored the Eagles 54-26 in the paint. Carson Jones led the way for the Eagles, going 9-of-14 from the field and 4-of-6 from deep for a game-high 26 points along with one assist and a steal.
 
Miles Gibson leads the way offensively for the Eagles as the junior guard from Allen, Texas has gone 105-of-201 (52.2%) from the floor including 12-of-32 (37.5%) from deep and 65-of-78 (83.3%) from the stripe to average 15.1 points per game with 131 rebounds, 34 assists, 26 steals and nine blocks. The 15.1 points per game ranks 12th amongst LSC scoring leaders this season.
 
OC HEAD COACH KENDRE TALLEY
Former OC standout Kendre Talley is now in his seventh season as the head men's basketball coach at Oklahoma Christian after beginning serving as the program's interim head coach beginning April 5, 2019 and later being elevated to full-time head coach on January 23, 2020.
 
Since becoming interim head coach ahead of the 2019-20 season, Talley has accumulated a 64-109 overall record. Last season saw the Eagles post the most single-season victories (9) inside of the Payne Athletic Complex under Talley. In his six years, Talley has coached 11 All-Lone Star Conference selections. As a player at OC from 2010-14 Talley was a Second Team NCCAA All-American during his senior season as he scored 1,333 career points.
 
THE SERIES
Saturday afternoon will mark the ninth all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Buffs and Eagles in a series that dates back to 2019. West Texas A&M is a perfect 8-0 in the series including a 2-0 mark inside of the Payne Athletic Center with trips to Edmond coming in 2022 and 2023.
 
The last meeting saw the Buffs outscore the Eagles 50-33 in the second half on their way to a 94-70 victory at the First United Bank Center back on December 4th. WT connected 11 times from behind the arc as they shot 53% (35-of-66) from the floor as they forced 22 OC turnovers. Fontaine Williams Jr. went 10-of-15 from the field and 2-of-5 from behind the arc for a game-high 26 points with three rebounds, six assists and two steals.
 
WT HEAD COACH TOM BROWN
Tom Brown, now in his 12th season at the helm of the West Texas A&M men's basketball program, has built the Buffs into one of the elite NCAA Division II programs in the nation.  He has guided WT to nine consecutive NCAA Tournaments including the Buffs first-ever NCAA Division II National Championship game in 2021. 
 
Brown reached the 300-win plateau with an 87-67 victory at Cameron on February 5, 2026.
 
Brown was hired as the 17th head coach in program history on April 16, 2014. In the past 10 seasons, Coach Brown and his staff are 280-70 (.804) and an average of 27 wins a season with appearances in the Sweet 16, Elite Eight, Final Four (2) and National Title game. During his time in Canyon, Brown is 300-83 (.787) overall and 161-49 (.773) in league action. 
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Defending Regional Champion Dallas Baptist claimed 42 of the possible 51 first place votes for a total of 850 points to sit atop of the poll followed by St. Mary's (two first place, 724), Lubbock Christian (four first place, 720), St. Edward's (669) and West Texas A&M (two first place, 654) to round out the top five.
 
Angelo State and Eastern New Mexico tied for sixth with 592 points followed by Midwestern State (558), UT Permian Basin (468), Texas A&M International (one first place, 350), Texas A&M-Kingsville (330), Cameron (301), Oklahoma Christian (266), UT Tyler (260), Western New Mexico (193), UT Dallas (188) and Sul Ross State (88).
