CANYON, Texas – The #6 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M return to the First United Bank Center on Thursday night as they welcome the UT Tyler Patriots for Lone Star Conference action beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Canyon.
 
EASTERN NEW MEXICO REWIND
WT's Karley Motschenbacher knocked down a pair of free throws with less than a second remaining on Thursday night as the #6 Lady Buffs extended their win streak to 18 games with a wild 84-83 LSC win over the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds. Kyla Kane scored 16 points, converting 7 of 8 free throws, and recorded three steals. Motschenbacher finished with 19 points, made 12 of 15 free throws, and collected seven rebounds. Claire Graham added 11 points with three 3-pointers and recorded two steals. Henley West contributed nine points and posted two blocks.
 
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
UT Tyler enters the week 13-6 overall with a 9-1 mark in LSC action as they ride a nine-game winning streak into Thursday night. The Patriots are 6-1 so far this season away from East Texas with their lone road loss coming at Texas A&M International (57-53). Last weekend's inclement weather forced a scheduled Saturday contest at Midwestern State to be moved to February 9th.
 
Last Thursday night saw the Patriots outscore Lubbock Christian 30-18 in the second half on the way to a 55-45 victory at the Herrington Patriot Center. Leila Davis led the way going 11-of-18 from the floor including 3-of-4 from the free throw line for a game-high 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds, two assists and two steals. UTT outscored the Lady Chaps 30-20 in the paint as the Patriots shot 39.6% (21-of-53) from the floor with a +11 rebounding margin.
 
Davis has powered the Patriot offensive attack all season as the freshman from Melbourne, Australia has gone 72-of-143 (50.3%) from the field including 12-of-33 (36.4%) from behind the arc and 38-of-59 (64.4%) from the free throw line to average 10.8 points per game with 105 rebounds, 29 assists, 28 steals and six turnovers. Davis has reached double-figures in eight games this season to go along with three double-doubles.
 
UTT HEAD COACH REBECCA ALVIDREZ
Rebecca Alvidrez is now in her fifth season at the helm of the UT Tyler women's basketball program. She has guided the Patriots to three NCAA Tournament appearances including a South Central Regional Championship in 2022-23. Alvidrez spent the previous four seasons as the Associate Head Coach at Stephen F. Austin under former Lady Buff head coach Mark Kellogg.
 
THE SERIES
Thursday afternoon marks just the ninth all-time meeting on the hardwood between the Lady Buffs and Patriots in the series that dates back to 2020. The series is tied 4-4 as the Patriots are 0-2 at the First United Bank Center with losses coming in 2022 and 2024. The teams met twice last season with UTT taking the regular-season matchup before the Lady Buffs claimed a 58-47 win in the South Central Regional Quarterfinals in Denton.
 
The last meeting on March 14th saw Kyla Kane go 6-of-13 from the floor including 6-of-10 from behind the arc for a game-high 21 points followed by Hollie Stalder (15) and Claire Graham (11) also in double-figures. The Lady Buffs out-rebounded the Patriots 46-35 with WT connecting from behind the arc 10 times (10-of-31). 
 
WT HEAD COACH JOSH PROCK
Josh Prock is now in his fifth season at the helm of the Lady Buff Basketball program. The Lady Buffs made the program's 29th appearance in the NCAA Division II Postseason during the 2024-25 campaign as they went 19-13 overall with a 12-10 mark in the LSC. The Lady Buffs advanced to the South Central Regional Semifinals.
 
Prock reached the 300-career victory milestone on Thursday, December 4th in a 76-51 victory over Oklahoma Christian at the First United Bank Center in Canyon. Prock was introduced as West Texas A&M's head women's basketball coach on June, 2, 2021. Prock is no stranger to the Lone Star Conference as he spent eight seasons as the head coach at Eastern New Mexico leading the Greyhounds to their only three NCAA Tournament appearances in program history.
 
HOME SWEET HOME
West Texas A&M is home to one of the finest multi-purpose facilities in the country as the First United Bank Center has served as the home of the Lady Buffs since January 26, 2002. The Lady Buffs are a staggering 296-47 inside of the FUBC during that time for a winning clip of 86.3%. WT has averaged 1,035 fans per contest since the facility opened its doors with the largest crowd coming on Opening Night with 4,941 members of Buff Nation seeing the Lady Buffs take on rival Abilene Christian.
 
LSC PRESEASON PLAYER OF THE YEAR
West Texas A&M senior guard Kyla Kane was tabbed the Lone Star Conference Preseason Player of the Year announced on Monday, October 20th. The 5-foot-10 native of Wellington, Texas, averaged 13.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. She shot 89.8 percent from the free throw line and made 56 3-pointers.
 
LSC PRESEASON POLL
The Lady Buffs were selected fourth in the 2025 LSC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Defending Regional Champion Texas Woman's claimed 20 of the possible 51 first place votes to sit atop of the poll with 810 points followed by Lubbock Christian (14 first place, 776), UT Tyler (eight first place, 761), West Texas A&M (six first place, 663) and Eastern New Mexico (two first place, 657) to round out the top five. Angelo State (656) sits sixth followed by Texas A&M-Kingsville (564), UT Permian Basin (466), Midwestern State (461), St. Mary's (438), St. Edward's (363), Oklahoma Christian (310), Cameron (262), Texas A&M International (one first place, 210), UT Dallas (168), Western New Mexico (161) and Sul Ross State (77).
 
WBCA DIVISION II TOP-25 POLL
The Lady Buffs remained sixth in the newest edition of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II Top-25 Poll announced on Tuesday.
 
The South Central Region is represented by Texas Woman's (3rd), WT (6th), Colorado Mesa (7th) and Lubbock Christian (23rd) and Adams State (RV).

The contest will be broadcasted on FloCollege. The LSC and FloSports reached a historic agreement in August for the largest streaming rights deal in NCAA Division II history.
