CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M claimed three Lone Start Conference individual crowns including a sweep of the steeplechase titles on Friday during the 2025 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Al Whitehead Field at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium in Portales, New Mexico.
 
Kailee Benton started off the day with a second-place finish in the long jump (5.70m) followed by a third-place finish in the javelin (34.98m) and a fifth-place finish in the 800m (2:39.51) to claim bronze in the Heptathlon with 4,803 points followed by Mara Andritsch in 4^th (4,800) and Erin Martin in 7^th (3,616).
 
Allen Henderson would win silver in the men's decathlon with 5,754 points. Luke Holcombe claimed an eighth-place finish in the men's discus with a mark of 44.67m followed by Brocc Brodecky in 10^th (43.26m). Henderson finished 4^th in the high jump (1.95m) followed by Romet Vahter in 5^th (1.90m).
 
Jada Sewell claimed a victory in the women's discus with a mark of 47.21m on her fourth attempt followed by Hope Gray in 5^th(41.87m) and Alex Tice in 6^th (41.86m). Abigail Abugire registered the top time in the women's 800m prelims as the Ghana product registered a mark of 2:13.53. The 400m prelims saw Blessing Akintoye (54.21) and Peace Nwaelehia (54.49) advance to Saturday's finals.
 
The men's 800m saw Azia Mohammed register the top time with a 1:51.87 as he will be joined in the finals by Prince Mcabelo (1:52.01). A trio of Buffs punched their ticket to the 100m finals as James Dadzie had the fastest overall time in the prelims (10.30) followed by Isaac Botsio (10.43) and Jerry Jakpa (10.50).
 
A pair of Lady Buffs qualified for the finals in the 100m as Deborah Acheampong ran a time of 11.77 followed by Leah Belfield (12.01). Asana Hamidu registered the top prelim time in the women's 400m hurdles with a mark of 1:00.78 as she will be joined in the finals by teammate Rylee Sanders (1:04.06). The men's 400m hurdles prelims saw Troy Whyte run the quickest mark (52.29) to advance to the finals.
 
Eliette Chaput claimed the Lone Star Conference in the women's 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:50.97 followed by Matthys Bourse winning the league crown in the men's steeplechase with a mark of 9:25.68.
