CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Track & Field continued their march toward the postseason on Saturday afternoon as they closed out the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi at the Buffalo Sports Park in Canyon, Texas.
Hope Gray claimed a sixth-place finish in the women's shot put with a mark of 42.31m followed by
Alex Tice in seventh (41.09m), the men's event saw
Luke Holcombe register a mark of 46.99m to finish fifth overall following a school record in the shot put on Friday in Canyon.
Meadow Gallentine claimed a third-place finish in the weight throw with a mark of 51.21m followed by
Abigail Provost in sixth (50.34m), Holcombe would close out his afternoon with a throw of 54.88m to finish fifth overall.
Joseph Oreva continued to impress in the men's long jump as the Nigeria product tied the fourth-best mark in West Texas A&M outdoor history with a 7.76m to finish second in the event.
The Lady Buffs 4x100m relay squad of
Peace Nwaelehia,
Leah Belfield,
Blessing Akintoye and
Deborah Acheampong ran a time of 44.84 to finish second. The WT men would finish third in the 4x1 relay with a time of 39.76 (
Jace Lynch,
Jerry Jakpa,
James Dadzie,
Isaac Botsio).
Aziz Mohammed picked up a second-place finish in the men's 800m with a mark of 1:51.52 followed by
Calvin Allen in third (1:51.92).
Temitope Adenuga ran a time of 14.30 in the women's 100m hurdles to finish fourth while a pair of Lady Buffs claimed Top-10 marks in the 400m as Nwaelehia ran a 53.10 to rank 8
th followed by Akintoye's 53.37 for the 10
th best mark in WT history as they finished 2
nd and 3
rd respectively.
Botsio would register a time of 10.11 in the men's 100m finals to finish second overall while running the 10
th fastest mark in WT outdoor history followed by Dadzie in fourth with a 10.27.
Asana Hamidu claimed a victory in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 59.49 for the fifth best mark in school history followed closely by Adenuga's 1:00.08 for the eighth mark on WT's all-time list.
Akintoye broke a school record in the women's 200m with a time of 23.08 followed by Nwaelehia in second with a 23.46 for the eighth fastest time in Lady Buff outdoor history in the event.
Troy Whyte picked up a win men's 400m hurdles with a mark of 51.98.
