CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M broke three school records on Friday in Indianapolis highlighted by
Meadow Gallentine winning National Championship in the weight throw during the 2025 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships at the Fall Creek Pavillion inside of the Indiana State Fairgrounds.

The meet concludes on Saturday in Indianapolis as five WT student-athletes have qualified for running event finals along with multiple others competing in their respective event championships.

THURSDAY RECAP
Romet Vahter started things off for the Buffs as the junior from Estonia sits fourth in the men's heptathlon following four events with 3,074 points. Vahter picked up 828 of those points in the long jump with a mark of 7.06m.

The Lady Buffs qualified a pair of runners for the women's 400m finals on Saturday as
Peace Nwaelehia ran a time of 53.72 to win her heat with the fourth fastest indoor mark in the event in program history,
Blessing Akintoye's 54.12 is good enough for seventh on WT's all-time list as she finished fifth in the prelims.

William Amponsah continued his historic distance career in the nightcap of the opening day, running a time of 13:39.43 to win bronze.

Vahter would continue his big weekend in the heptathlon, finishing second in the 60m hurdles (8.32) and fourth in the pole vault (4.55m) before concluding the event with a sixth-place finish in the 1,000m (2:47.44) to claim All-American honors with a new school record of 5,545 points.

Joseph Oreva impressed in the men's long jump as the Nigeria native registered a mark of 7.40m (24-3 ½) to finish fifth overall for All-American accolades.

Abigail Abugire qualified for Saturday's finals in the women's 800m with a time of 2:08.29 to win her heat for the third fastest indoor time in WT history. Akintoye joined Abugire on Championship Saturday as she punched her ticket to the 200m finals with a time of 23.82, ranking fifth on the WT all-time Top 10.Â

Jerry Jakpa moved onto the men's 200m finals with a time of 21.23 in the prelims. The distance crews took the track to end Friday's action as the Buffs (
Calvin Allen,
Jamill Phillips,
Prince Mcabelo,
Aziz Mohammed) ran a time of 9:43.46 to finish eighth for All-American accolades.Â

Kalkidan Vincendeau,
Asana Hamidu, Abugire and
Eliette Chaput broke the school record and finished fourth overall with a time of 11:23.04.
