CANYON, Texas – Coming off a series split with No. 1 UT Tyler, the West Texas A&M softball team hosts Texas Woman's to close out its short home stand. The Lady Buffs and Pioneers are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 2 at Schaeffer Park in Canyon.

The Athletic Communications Department from West Texas A&M will provide live stats and a pay-per-view web stream. A LOOK AT THE #7 LADY BUFFS
In a battle of two top teams in the country, the Lone Star Conference doubleheader between the No. 7-ranked West Texas A&M and No. 1 UT Tyler didn't disappoint on Friday night. The Patriots controlled game one before holding off a late Lady Buff comeback to win game one 9-8. In game two, WT completed a dramatic comeback for a 3-2 win. The split moves the Lady Buffs' record to 19-1 overall and 9-1 in conference play while UT Tyler falls to 17-2 overall and 8-2 in league action.
The Lady Buffs feature another high-octane lineup that ranks inside the top 10 for Division II for almost every offensive category including batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and stolen bases. WT leads the country in doubles, hits, home runs, RBIs, runs, scoring, and triples.
Junior
Lauren Granger ranks third in the country with 31 hits while leading the country with 62 total bases with other top 25 standings in over offensive categories. Granger's .508 batting average leads the team where 13 different players have a .333 batting average or higher.
Emilee Boyer's 34 RBIs lead the nation as the junior utility also ranks in the top 25 in other categories nationwide.
In the circle, WT has posted a 1.93 ERA with 153 strikeouts and 35 earned runs in 127 innings. Boyer and Vortherms have over 60 strikeouts each on the season as
Kendall Selitzky also has double digits (16) on the season.
Head Coach
Michael Mook is in his sixth season at WT, registering a 205-54 (.792) record in that time. For his career, Mook holds 359-115 record in 10 seasons for an overall winning percentage of .757.
SCOUTING TEXAS WOMAN'S
Texas Woman's comes to Canyon after a pair of losses at the hands of Midwestern State. The Pioneers (9-5, 5-5 LSC) fell to the Mustangs 4-3 in game one after MSU put up four runs in the bottom of the sixth. In game two, the Mustangs took an early lead on the way to a 7-6 victory.
Lizzie Smith leads the Texas Woman's offense as the sophomore holds a .457 batting average with a 1.227 OPS, .600 slugging average, and .627 on-base percentage. The Lewisville, Texas native paces the Pioneers with 16 hits, 12 runs, and11 walks. Tawa Townsend follows with a .395 batting average, 1.225 OPS, .767 slugging percentage, and .458 on-base percentage. Townsend leads the team with seven doubles, three homeruns, and 14 RBI.
As a pitching staff, Texas Woman's holds a 3.95 ERA in 90.1 innings of work. During that time, opponents are hitting .275 while hitting 23 doubles, seven triples, and six home runs while striking out 65 times. Allison Gonzalez leads the team with a 2.21 ERA on nine appearances and six starts with three complete games, two shutouts, a save, and 21 strikeouts. Randi Crawford follows with a 2.60 ERA on seven appearances and five starts with two complete games, a save, and 33 strikeouts.
Gay McNutt is in her third season as the head coach of the Texas Woman's program and 26
th overall. McNutt holds a 687-728 (.486) record for her career with a 59-62 (.488) record at the helm of the Pioneers.

WT leads the all-time series with Texas Woman's 40-23 with a 19-13 record in Canyon. The Lady Buffs are 10-0 against the Pioneers under
Michael Mook. In the 2024 season, WT swept TWU in Canyon. The Lady Buffs defeated the Pioneers 5-3 in game one before posting back-to-back 8-0 victories in five innings.

LSC HITTER OF THE WEEK
On Tuesday, West Texas A&M junior
Emilee Boyer earned the Lone Star Conference's Softball Hitter of the Week Award. It is the first weekly honor for Boyer this season and third in her career.

Emilee Boyer continued her hot streak at the plate as the utility player posted a .600 average (9-for-15), including four extra-base hits and five RBI, in doubleheader sweeps at Cameron and Oklahoma Christian. Boyer compiled a 1.133 slugging percentage and powered a pair of doubles and two home runs, including the go-ahead seventh-inning home run in the 4-3 win vs. Cameron and a fifth inning blast vs. OC for the 9-0 win. In the circle, Boyer went 2-0 with two complete games and 17 strikeouts.
NFCA RANKINGS
UT Tyler received all 16 first-place votes for 400 points to remain in the top spot of the poll. Auburn Montgomery (380) and Tampa (256) held at No. 2 and No. 3 while Angelo State (348) and Augustana (320) moved up a spot to round out the top five. Wilmington (311), West Texas A&M (306), Rogers State (301), Francis Marion (283), and Western Washington (256) make up the remainder of the top 10.
The South Central region is represented by five teams with UT Tyler leading the way at No. 1. Angelo State (4
th), WT (7
th), Oklahoma Christian (18
th), and Lubbock Christian (22
nd) earned spots in the rankings.
LSC PRESEASON POLL
Reigning National Champion UT Tyler took the top spot in the poll with 34 first-place votes and 672 points followed by WT with eight first-place votes and 642 points. Angelo State grabbed the final first-place vote for 590 points with Oklahoma Christian following at 528 points. Lubbock Christian and St. Mary's tied for fifth in the poll with each school totaling 483 points. Texas Woman's (382), Texas A&M-Kingsville (372), Cameron (348), and Eastern New Mexico (315) occupy the seventh through 10
th spots, respectively. St. Edward's (293), Texas A&M International (215), Midwestern State (214), UT Permian Basin (97), and Sul Ross State (72) round out the poll.
